AN autistic paperboy was distraught after thieves stole his beloved bike.
They struck as Toby Cook was on his round delivering copies of the Cambridge News.
The 14-year-old was shocked to find his bike missing. It was given to him by his parents as a Christmas present.
His father, Trevor, 57, of Arrendene Road, Haverhill, said: "He came rushing into the house and all he could say was 'where's it gone, where's it gone, sorry'.
"He was very upset. He hasn't got a big vocabulary so it took a while to work out what had happened.
"He only delivers 12 papers and we let him do it because it gets him out doing something and he really enjoys it. He had delivered eight of the papers when his bike was stolen.
"He was in a terrible state. He loved that bike.
"I just hope the person who stole it reads the paper and it pricks their conscience. I was absolutely furious.
"We have put posters up around the town to see if anyone has seen the bike."
The cycle, a Silver Fox which cost £240, was taken from Shadowbush Close at about 4.30pm on Friday.
Mr Cook said: "He was only about 10 paces from the bike when it was taken.
"I hope someone will come forward. We are offering a reward for the return of the machine in its original condition."
Mr Cook has three children including Charlie, 16, who is also autistic and Timothy, 17, who is studying to be a pharmacist and working at Boots in Cambridge.
Kind-hearted Charlie is raising money for Hillside Special School in Sudbury where Toby goes to school and has been given a stall at Sainsbury's in Haycock Road on Saturday where he will sell ladies' shoulder bags that he made himself.
Mr Cook said: "Charlie's great at needlework and Sainsbury's said they'll give him a uniform for the day. He is chuffed to bits."

After the horse has bolted unfortunately. Speaking from experience since one of my daughters has a speech problem, and one has a hyperactivity problem.
Yeah, pretty bad luck regarding the bike. Karma works wonders though, this is assured.
For example, i used to complain to someone about his loud music, but he never gave a toss about us or our young kids trying to sleep. When he "grew up" and had a family of his own, he too was afflicted with the torment of an uncaring bastard with loud music and he openly said he's now sorry for the way he behaved.
The thief in this case will have something stolen, or have an accident on the bike. :D

I would be very surprised if the local community didn't rally round and get young Toby a new bike.
Sorry to hear about your kiddies problems. :(
Big pharma, politicians, the medical profession and the media are guilty of crimes against humanity.
The Whale.to is the best site I know for explaining the scale of this disaster!
It was actually rather big of this bloke to apologize about his earlier behaviour. And quite unusual I reckon...

TWO teenagers have managed to get a stolen bike back to a distraught paperboy.
Toby Cook, 14, who is autistic, was delivering copies of the Cambridge News when his beloved bike, given to him by his parents as a Christmas present, was stolen, leaving him distraught.
After the News carried the story of the theft on Tuesday, we received calls from generous readers who wanted to donate cash to buy Toby a new bike.
And Press Relief, the charity run by the News, was poised to give Toby a replacement machine in conjunction with Townsend Light Blue Bicycle Centre in Chesterton Road, Cambridge.
Also, we received a call from Steve Johnston of JPS Cycles in East Road, who wanted to give the lad a bicycle.
Even police in Haverhill, where the theft happened, offered to give him a replacement.
But when we called to ask his father, Trevor, 57, of Arrendene Road, Haverhill, if he would accept the offer, the two youths were already at his home returning the bike.
He said: "They are in the house now with Toby's bike. They said they got it off the person who received it from those who stole it.
"I have given the boys a reward of £10 each. It was very good of them."
Shaun Hunsdon, 16, and his friend Callum Slater, 15, pupils at Samuel Ward School, said they were just pleased they could return the bike.
Shaun said: "We read about it in the paper and the bit where Toby tells his dad he's sorry really got to us.
"We found out who had the bike and they said they didn't realise it was taken from an autistic boy and asked us to return it."
Mr Cook told the News: "The response from people has been magic.
"It's touching to know that people out there really care."
The cycle, a Silver Fox which cost £240, was taken from Shadowbush Close at about 4.30pm last Friday. Police are still investigating the incident.
