Meet the pensioner who hasn't had a TV since 1978 - so why are the licence police STILL after her?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1121523/Meet-pensioner-TV-1978--licence-police-STILL-her.html

Hannah Patricia Humphris doesn't own a television, but is still being pursued by the TV Licencing Authority

WTF, you need a TV licence that you have to PAY for to watch TV in the UK?

As well as threatening prosecution, the letter said she would be liable for a £1,000 fine if found guilty over the £139.50 licence fee.

I'm assuming that is an anual fee, so you have to the pay them to let them program you?

Clever, eh?? Create the tool for mass progamming and then...make it so attractive, we actually WANT to pay for it...a very cunning plan....

Well there is no way they can touch her if she hasnt got a TV. They have probably just assumed that everybody has one.

She should sue them for harrassment. If they had any real sense they would send a van around to check if there are any signal coming from her house. If they have not done that then they are screwed.

..:D...didn't mean to sound thick..just I was under the impression that even if you don't own a tv, you can still be done if you own a radio, (thus being able to listen to BBC programmes)..but apparently as long as you don't own an aerial equipment to watch TV, you don't have to have a licence...

Originally the whole point of having a Licence was to pay for BBC services because they don't advertise (like the ITV channels do)..well that doesn't seem to hold up these days, so much subliminal advertising and crafty advertising going on...like seeing tubs of Clover on 'enders and BBC sports programmes with blatant advertising, especially at footie matches........

I've been pursued by the TV Licensing people for a long time now, and have been sent some very threatening and rather intimidating letters from the BBC ever since I stopped watching TV programs and don't pay the License fee anymore.

You have to be completely honest about this - there is no point not paying the License fee and then carrying on using your TV set to watch TV programs because they will probably catch you sooner or later.

However, I decided to bite the bullet on this issue because I just don't want to watch the boring crap and the politically correct brainwashing news and third-rate garbage 'they' are broadcasting these days.

I only use my TV for playback of shop-purchased DVD films / documentaries and serials, oh and for PC games for the kids.

Yes, I've had many letters threatening £1000 fines, Court Action, visits from enforcement officers "to take my statement", etc. As far as I'm concerned, they can come into my house any time, as my conscience is completely clear. I don't watch or record ANY TV programmes. I've disconnected the roof arial, taken the connection plug off it and it's just hanging outside with the end wrapped in a bag and taped up. Where I live, it is impossible to get terrestrial TV reception without an arial connected to the TV anyway.

Just to clarify what your rights are:

You can own and have a TV set in your house without paying the BBC TV License fee PROVIDING you don't use the TV set (or sets) to record or watch television programs as they are being broadcasted. This is what it says on all the 'official' threatening letters you get if you stop paying the License fee.

Thus, people who ONLY use their TV(s) for DVD playback and gaming (Wii, Playstation, etc) DO NOT need to purchase a Television License.

The last letter I had said that, "the property is now under investigation"... but I'm being honest about it, not breaking the law, and so I'm not going to be intimidated by them into paying a fee, for me and my family to be brain-washed by their PC crap and lies.

hokhmah, have you ever head of The Protection From Harassment Act? maybe you should send them a notice quoting section 1 of that act.

Hey Pleasuredome, thanks a lot for that.

I forgot to mention that on the threatening letters from the BBC, it says to telephone the number shown to give your reason as to why you are not paying the License fee, but I think this is more about telling the TV Licensing 'thugs' that the address is occupied.

As for the letters now, its all shredder fodder!! so let them come.. my conscience is completely clear on this one.

Ignoring all letters works best. Don't enter into ANY dialogue with any of them.

I do know that not a single person has been prosecuted who didn't admit it. The technology they claim to have to check for singnals has not been used even once in court. most likely reason is that it's not accurate enough (That's if it exists at all?)

from http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/TV_License

The TV licensing people love to tell lies. Every day they think up newer, more elaborate lies. Whoever thinks up the biggest lie which anyone actually believes get the TV licence man crown. After a heavy weekend taking acid, the current champion came up with a kind of telepathic van that can tell if there is a TV in your house. People actually believed this shit, so ever game for a laugh, the TV licence chappies decided to knock one up (build it, not make it pregnant).

If you want to make a TV 'detector' van you will need

1. A van
2. Some old metal, coat hangers are ideal
3. Glue
4. A permanent marker

Simply bend the metal into a technical looking shape, the more elaborate the better, then glue it onto the top of your van. Next write 'TV detector van' on the side of it with the permanent marker, then drive round collecting money from idiots

You have to be completely honest about this - there is no point not paying the License fee and then carrying on using your TV set to watch TV programs because they will probably catch you sooner or later..

HOW? they will only 'catch' you if you give them confirmation or let them into your house.
Why would anyone let a TV enforcer into your home?
do NOT let them in , EVER. they are NOT police , have no authority.
when you buy a television product, even a remote control or a PC, NEVER give your real name and address, always give a false name and to pick an address, just say a house 'a few doors' from an address you know , (so the postcode matches house number on the cashiers computer)
Sky Tv will grass you up so don't get sky, it's crap.
even better GET RID OF THE TELEVISION. it's just mind control, insulting , aimed at childlike mentality, why do think they call it 'propgramming'?

it says to telephone the number shown to give your reason as to why you are not paying the License fee, but I think this is more about telling the TV Licensing 'thugs' that the address is occupied.

Exactly. NEVER respond to them. NEVER.
