OK one of the reasons I joined the boards was to talk about the Dragonball film.

First I have to say that I have been a Dragon Ball fan since I saw the anime in 1995. It simply has to be one of the best works ever made, Akira Toriyama is a true visionary. I have loved anime since around I was born, but anime such as Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya and Neon Genesis Evangelion reinforced that love in me of anime and japanese culture (yes I am a proud weaboo).

Dragon Ball is based on the chinese legend of Journey to the West and the Monkey King; while it is mainly seen as a martial arts action-adventure series; it deals with many subjects like friendship, spirituality, self-superation and many more. But some see it as nothing more than mindless brawling thanks to the stupid editing and censorship from the US. Dragon Ball is more than that, the values shown in it have helped me to be a better person in life but I still have too much to learn. It has even inspired the creation of this book wich goes deeper on the Dragon Ball mythos comparing even Goku with Jesus; http://www.thedaoofdragonball.com/ .

When I heard in 2002 that 20th Centrury Fox had adquired the rights to make a film, I was thrilled of the news and believed that Dragon Ball will be finally getting the recognition it deserves! But after several years, in 2007 they said they will be making it, but after reading about the changes they made to make it "adaptable to film" I totally lost all faith as it was no longer Dragon Ball. Instead they made just some generic random teen kung fu movie with the Dragonball name on it, plus the title of "Evolution."

Dragonball Evolution displays in no way what Dragon Ball trully is. It should had started with Goku as an innocent but powerful young boy, but instead we got the cliché emo teen.

I do believe there is a conspiracy in all of this, Dragon Ball manifests getting in touch with spirituality as ki energy is something very present in it, with this movie they will lower spirituality on people and the reputation of Dragon Ball. They also plan to get money only with the Dragonball name.

There is no way I will give money to this film and good thing there are others who won't be fooled. But sadly most people actually want to see it as they believe it is good to accept anything no matter the quality, or even worse are those who know the movie is bad but will see it anyway out of curiosity or just because it has the Dragonball name on it.

There are already sites against the film plus petitions like these ones:

http://blogs.ign.com/I_LIKE_TURTLES
http://dbmovieboicot.blogspot.com/
http://niuneurodbmovie.blogspot.com/
http://boycottdragonballmovie.wordpress.com/

And if that is not enough, Fox even wants to ruin the Watchmen movie which I support over Dragonball Evolution.

Hope we could all join forces against this movie, and while it may won't get canned, don't pay for it nor of any product related to this film. Dragon Ball deserves better than this.

Having seen every single Dragon Ball, DBZ, and DBGT episode... watching the trailer for that movie made me literally laugh out loud.

I enjoyed the series, mainly I likd the characterization of Goku, got me interested in the actual legend of the Monkey king.
I hate it when anything is adapted to film, they never get it right.

Have you spent hundreds to thousands of dollars on doujinshi? That's hardcore, baby.:D

The only mangas I was ever really interested in were from the animes' Beserk and Bleach.

Dragon Ball I guess was the first show that connected with me on a whole different level, spiritual if you will. I have fond memories of rushing home from church with my parents on Sundays mornings (which always seemed to be perfectly sunny days) and flipping on the tube to catch the weekly installment of the series!

But anyways, the whole movie thing looks stupid and ridiculous on many different levels. You cannot capture the essence of the whole dragon ball series, in what will seem to be, a less than two hour movie.

Of course I cannot say that I am actually surprised that they are actually making a movie. Every idea (from comic books, to novels, to mythology) and storyline (batman being the prime example) is rehashed and milked for every penny Hollywood can squeeze out, out of the drying teets of these original ideas. :)

I liked the fighting styles, but the overall storyline was just a very long power up. I loved the fanart and fanfic because it expanded on the original idea, in truth is lacking. It is the one of the only shows that have the characters grow up and have kids of their own, its that kind of thing that made me love it so.

It gave me an already made world which I could safely fulfill my some of my emotional needs. I got my new scanner and planning on getting my private doujinshi site up. The old site I had, I met a girl who said it developed her drawing ability, so my passion helped someone, what is wrong with that?

Akira Toriyama just spoke about the film. Which is your take on it? Think he was forced to say that (or paid)? Or he actually likes the film? If that is so, I will lose all respect on him.

Yeah I also believe this is a conspiracy from the media to destroy something that gives hope and faith to the people.
