In a world full of dipshits, intelligence can be a lonely and depressing virtue.

It's clear people are dumbed down both with propaganda and chemicals. But it doesn't mean they control people completely. They merely affect people. Why are we different then? Are we more resistant? I think we've been subjected to all of the same stuff as others, but we're sort able to think for ourselves. We'd probably do it even better if not for all the manipulation, but it means we can beat it. There's something in the heart that no chemical can vanguish.

For me, it's a choice to listen to my own heart and be true to myself....whatever made me that way.
I'm sure I've been affected by chemicals too; I often find it hard to concentrate; have a poor memory for facts- I only tend to remember stuff which has moved me in some way....dates, figures and names I struggle with.
Yet how does one define "intelligence"?
According to Tony Buzan, inventor of "mind mapping" there are at least, to put it very narrowly, 10 different types of intelligence.
I long to wake the world up to this, to help the world want to embrace all life forms in acceptance and not want to keep competing or patronize.

The word "intelligence" is part of the dumbing down-thing. Nowadays there are pretty much only two virtues: (I think I've said this before) pretty and intelligent. Someone is a "good" person if they are intelligent.
In the end intelligence doens't matter one bit. What about kind, loving, compassionate, understanding? Those attributes (and may others) are treated as obsolete and childish. There are so many attributes that give value to a person that don't even have words.
Intelligence is something sharp and direct, and they can even measure the IQ, so it can be proven to exist and be useful. But being kind doesn't help you make money for the corporation you belong to so it is useless.

I know what you mean. An acquaintance told me yesterday that I am "young and naive" because I the colour of a person's skin is not important and that there have to be some people out there who wish to do good simply because they feel they want to help others- and not for their own personal gain.

Wow, that's sad. Sounds like a really immature person, and a sheeple (this is where the word seems to apply).
I've noticed recently that doing something for others is the best thing I can often do. Usually there isn't anything I can do for myself, anything that I really want, so why not just do what others want. Maybe I'd rather go to restaurant A instead of B, or watch movie C instead of ¤, but really I don't care to go to restaurant A either. If others want to go to B, let's just go to B.
It's rarely that I can do something I really want, at those times I should be even more assertive to get what I want, but other times it might be best to go with the flow, and live for others if I can't live for myself.

Being open minded can come in handy sometimes; there's usually something on the menu I can scoff :D
