if i request my bank to give me a statement of account, are they legally required to do so? if they say they cant, what is the recourse?

Depends why you are asking for it.
If it is part of your "proof of claim" request, then this goes to prove/support your case.

In ANY communication of debt, there should be an account available with the bookkeeping entries. So if they say they can't provide them, then you simply remind them that without true accounts, they have not satisfied your request for proof of claim.

Of course they do - it's your account.

Why are they telling you you can't have one? If you go to your branch you can print one out but Im not sure how far back they can go.

what if they set up an account in your name and never told you about it and you just happen to come accross this account number with your name?
