After seeing The Secret, I finally understand why it is that snow often falls on unlikely days when little children pray.
1. They believe it is possible (if they have parents that tell them that prayer works)
2. They are able to "feel" the good feelings of rushing down a hill in their sled or making snowballs etc.
3. They are pretty persistent in 1. and 2. above.
4. Adults are consumed with thinking "Gee I hope it doesn't snow" which makes it all the more likely.
Prayer seems to work better for children for reasons 1, 2, and 3. It works until their parents hear them begging God for peace between mankind, at which point they are told, "sweetheart, it doesn't work that way". So that's what they believe. And then they start hearing about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny and next thing you know, you've got a 7-year-old cynic.
Sad, no?
But we can recapture that faith as adults. I am actively pursuing it. Since you're reading this, you probably are too!
