You can have the best equipped medical kit in the world, and it won't do you or your family a bit of good if you don't know how to use it. Here are the free download sites for the basic books that you should have. If possible, buy the books. If money is tight, then print them out. Once you have them downloaded, then read them, then read them again, then read them again, then read them aga... (well, you get the idea). Where There Is No Doctor, A Book for Midwives, and Where There Is No Dentist are the absolute basics. GET THESE FIRST!
Free downloads:
Hesperian Publishing's Download List (you have to download thes books chapter by chapter) http://www.hesperian.org/publications_download.php
Where There Is No Doctor,
Where Women Have No Doctor
A Book for Midwives
Where There Is No Dentist
Suturing (this book is the one that was given to me when I learned to suture many years ago)

great thread .
i dont like downloading though as this is not my pc .
have you any copy or printable products on info ?
would much apreciate a site where i could copy etc rather than down load .
downloading on this pc takes for ever .
however if you could give the names of the people who wrote the books that would be better because i could then buy them and keep them .
can you name the authers ?

Here's where you can buy the Hesperian books:
http://www.hesperian.org/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=HB&Category_Code=ENG
It also lists the authors, and all the other information that you need. I don't know of a site where you can just copy the information. Perhaps you have a friend with a high-speed connection and a disk burner who would download the books for you on a disk.
Also try Amazon for used copies.
Griswald, the link for the Wound Closure book requires a PDF reader, which you can download free from majorgeeks.com or any good freeware site. I just checked the link now and it worked fine.
