I came across this. Take any of this with a grain of salt if you aren't familiar with certain information as always check the validity of claims. It tries to explain with truths while leaving out others. I haven't read the entire document yet. If it may have been posted before, I advance my apologies. :D

The brain has a balance of power between the frontal lobes and the reptile brain etc.

If you focus your mind a lot (especialy with meditation) then the frontal lobe grows more connections between its cells and becomes more active, therefore the human side has the upper hand over the reptile side.

If you're frightened a lot then the reptile / animal side gains more power.

David I. has explained this kind of thing in a totaly different way.

He says it's computer subroutines and multi dimensional reptilians etc. etc.

There's a lot of benefit to be had by taking David's stuff as a metaphor.
