View Full Version : Do Americans like yoghurt?

I was eating some once, mango and peach flavour, a whole tub of ski, and this american girl I knew asked is that yoghurt, and I said yes it is, and she made a retching sound.
So is this common for Americans, a hatred of yoghurt, or was it just her.
Im eating a tub of it now with diced fruit, I love it.

Why would it matter if the answer is yes? You're talking about a country where eating fast food is considered normal, although tons of people are waking up to it these days.
It's funny because the Europeans are going down the same route as the Americans started to go down back in the 70's. For example in Germany, their food is loaded with trans fats. So much food is garbage there. Not as smart as you think, huh Germans?

Fast food is exactly that, it goes through you fast, you get no nourishment, and half an hour later your hungry again, and guess where most people go back, yep fast food again.
I have seen obese creatures practically live outside these places, as a spot to socialise from, every hour or so, they waddle back to the counter for more, this food I believe is addictive because of all the sugar thats put into it.

While it is true that some americans don't like yoghurt, it is also true that some americans do like yoghurt. This phenomenon is not only true for americans but also the swiss and the Japanese, while some of them like yoghurt, some of them don't like yoghurt. I, my self, am indifferent to yoghurt but then I'm british so I don't count.
Would it have been a good idea to have started this thread as a poll. i.e.

a. I AM NOT american and i DO like yoghurt
b. I AM NOT american and i DON'T like yoghurt

Is it possible to get non dairy yoghurt, I have IBS, and because of that dairy products effect me, yoghurt being one of them.
I have given up milk, cheese, custard, and replaced them with soy substitutes, but damned if I'm giving up yoghurt.

I think it's kind of funny that this is on that page under related articles:
Prostate cancer: soya protection - A diet low in fat and high in soya products can protect men from prostate cancer, according to a comparison of 14 Japanese and 14 Finnish men. ...
Anyway, the article said fermented soya was okay, so they ought to not have a problem with yogurt.

[Report]
Yogurt - US - July 2007
Published: 2007/07
Sales of yogurt are on the rise, supported by the diet/health yogurt segment. Organic brands and those with added probiotics are performing particularly well, and new sugar-reduced formulas are helping the category. However, manufacturers should not rely solely on momentum to carry the category into the future. Market players will need to find ways to further increase penetration. Nearly half of those who eat yogurt consumer less than eight cups a month, suggesting opportunities to increase the frequency of usage.

Talking of Americans, has anyone noticed how the American accent has changed slightly recently in that the "t" in words is now more pronounced ? Eg. if they said the word "city" it used to sound like "cithy", but now alot of them say "city" and it is more like the Queens English. And it sounds bloody horrible. Bush does it alot and he sounds like he is trying to sound like he is intelligent and it has the opposite effect IMO.
I used to like the American accent but it's starting to sound annoying now. Maybe it's just the posh Americans who do the "t" thing.

Semen slurper eh?
Careful of the aids virus, it could harm your skin.
Kids shouldnt be eating any of that sugary garbage for breakfast, there is way too much sugar in our foods, our diets are saturated with them, the best thing they can have is a boiled egg on toast, juice, plain cereal, and some yoghurt of course.

Pimples are nothing, aids sucks all the fat out from under your skin, leaving it yellowish and waxy, you look like a corpse.
If you put the semen on your face, be careful not to get it in your mouth, or snorted up your nose, and whatever you do, dont drink it.
That poor kid is a pig, pure and simple, guarentee his stomach shape is already hyper extended from over bloating, he will have a gut for the rest of his life, because the stomach muscles have been stretched from gorging.
If he been my kid he would have got his hand slapped when he reached for the third hot dog in arow.
I would have said thats enough, have another one in an hour, that way the food already eaten is digested properly, and his stomach wont hyper extend from gorging.
A lot of western kids have never really been hungry in the proper sense once in their life, what they have instead is an appetite from daily over eating, it has become a habit as well, when their bored they will eat, even if their not 'hungry.'

I remember the first time I had yogurt. My dad was eating a little thing of Dannon yogurt and I thought it was weird. I was right - that stuff is weird, but not in the way that I thought. A lot of Americans don't really know any kind of yogurt other than that particular brand, which is nasty commercial crap with high fructose corn syrup and shit.

Do Americans like yoghurt?
Hmm. Good question.

I do. Used to eat it as a snack and enjoyed it. My ex kept nagging me about it being fattening. One day on a trip back from the Keys we stopped for gas and I bought a cup of yogurt. As we drove I opened the cup and started eating it. He started his usual stuff about how yogurt will make me fat.
I'd had enough.
As I cursed his guts out I threw the yogurt out of the window. He then cursed me out for throwing money out the window. In retrospect........well, restropect is boring.
I never bought yogurt for the house again and just fell out of routine of eating it.
Thanks, SOL. While this is a really silly blast from the past thread, I read it, been amused and been reminded to eat yogurt again. It's good for you. :)

So far it seems to be quite agreeable with me at least but I'm generally nice to it. I guess I should apologize to yogurt spirit for throwing that cup out of the truck window all those years ago. It wasn't personal.
Now that I think about it, ex hubby should really be the one to apologize - he MADE me toss it out the window by insulting it. My reaction was in response to his frequent nagging and the yogurt was an unfortunate, innocent fatality.
Or course, the woodland creatures that cleaned it up off the side of the road must have enjoyed it.
