Two nights ago I got to see Buckethead again. Not only does he play the most impossible shit on guitar, but he is a total artist. The only performance art future-shredder in the world!

On the album I got (Neo Classical Rock Guitar) it sounds more like he wants to play faster and more diverse than it is possible to play on a guitar.

That guy is really good, but I don't know if he could wrap his head around Buckethead's shit that easily. I bet BH could play his stuff, though. The style has been pretty much played out since the '80's, when neoclassical shred was in full swing.

Well atleast I haven't seen anything from Buckethead that would impress me. And you don't really want to claim that the vids of him posted in this thread show harder to play stuff than the example I gave do ya?

I don't see him doing all that eight-finger tapping and shit. His technique is incredible, but I don't know if he can do what Buckethead does. Maybe he can? I don't know. When I think of impossible guitar it's Buckethead, alright? Not Mr...what's his name? Neo-classical shred master dude? :D Just playin', man.

Methinks tis time for some culture á la "less is more"
Here's a Genius.
Jimmy Page, jimi hendrix and eric claptons favouite guitarist, died 35 years ago
and hardly anyone has heard (of) him.
"Clarence White" and his inimitable insanely syncopated guitar
I Am A Pilgram, Soldiers Joy - YouTube
That's just the acoustic he also co-invented the b-bender, was a "byrd"
and played the mental guitar solo in arlo guthrie's "coming in to los angeles" (it's a 6string and not a pedal steel ;)

Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music's guitarist).Phil composed a piece called Impossible Guitar, but still, hey thanks for the video...all talent and technique.

Nowadays on youtube there are 5 yr olds who can play as good as me and 8 yr olds who smoke my substantial backside. Perhaps a SLIGHT exaggeration here... but not much. Anyhow all the guitarists in this thread are awesome. I was happy to find this. I am an unabashed(is that the right word?) shred lover and have been since like forever. Any Shawn Lane fans out there?.... possibly the only guy that shreds all these shredders.

But isn't 'shredding for the sake of shredding' just a glorified, musical wank?
Whatever happened to good ol' fashioned musicianship and songs? :(

I was using shred as a more general term for intense and often virtuoso playing (and I'm using that term loosely as well). And yes "Apache" is a classic!
