It really is like looking at clouds, cept you can find way more freaky things! It's like the Northern Lights, you don't even need drugs!! However, I do recommend... :p
Hubble captures dragon-like supernova remnant
The remains of a supernova explosion, resembling a fiery dragon, are revealed in this image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.
The remnant, known as N 63A, is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud about 160,000 light years from our Milky Way galaxy. It was probably formed by a star about 50 times more massive than the Sun.
A strong stellar wind blew from the star and cleared a bubble all around it. When the star exploded in a supernova, it did so within this "wind bubble". The bubble can be seen in X-ray images taken by the Chandra X-ray Observatory, as well as in infrared and radio frequency images.
You-Hua Chu, an astronomer at the University of Illinois, US, used the Hubble Space Telescope in 1997 and 2000 to search for any remnants of the wind bubble visible at optical wavelengths, but without success. Even today, she says, "we still don't see it".
The image shown here is part of the Hubble Heritage series and was released on Wednesday. The stellar wind was not quite strong enough to blow out some dense clouds, which remained in the wind bubble, says Chu.
Supernovae can jump-start star formation when their expanding shockwaves encounter nearby gas. But N 63A is still young, and so far its shockwaves have only shredded the clouds.
Astronomers say that in several million years, material from N 63A may make its way into star-forming areas and could help create new planets.
