This child has a really awful skin condition known as "harlequin ichthyosis" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlequin_type_ichthyosis)

But its definitely the most reptilian/humanoid looking real living thing I've ever seen.

Freaky.

That sat me up. I wasn't expecting what I saw. I felt for the baby too. Never know what you'll find archived (in the older threads).

it's linked to eczema, eczema gone haywire. I watched a programme about kids that have this condition who have lived to their teens, they can survive but they have to scrub their skin off layer by layer because the skin just keeps on growing, hundreds of times faster than it should. It's really bad for them.

I don't like this video and I hate the way they are treating this child like a science project manipulating his/her limbs with no regard to the discomfort it causes. I was fooled initially not having heard of the medical condition that causes it. Very scary.

Yeah I have heard of this. Pretty sad.:( I admit that images of deformed children/babies REALLY upset me.

Not necessarily...Harlequin Ichthyosis was first noted as early as 1750. It's genetic, both parents have to be carriers of the recessive gene.

Babies afflicted with this disease have a most unusual appearance, which many find distressing. For this reason, websites with photographs of such babies are often linked to on Internet forums by Internet trolls as a form of shock site, even though many are medical websites and not intended for this purpose. Some of these photos have been included in the notorious Pain Series of shock image collages. A series of photos claiming to show the effects of depleted uranium in Iraq includes a picture of a child with harlequin ichthyosis. Critics of the photos question whether the photo was from Iraq, let alone whether the case was caused by depleted uranium.
