The truth is that The "Kingdom Of God" will not survive in America or the rest of the world for that matter. Americas political structure and structure of the society conflicts with another form of Govt "Kingdom of God" from being established. The preachers like The Billy Grahams, and Benny Hills, Save our Children are all false prophets and they dont have the rights to rule. America is designed to help our True Kings become successful but the True Kings run the risk of being killed or afflicted some how. Church now adays Its all false and watered down. A way for helpess people to dream and hope in being helped. If The Messiah walked into a church he wouldnt even be recognized and would more likely be for over throwing Christianity therefore the Americans wouldnt even believe in him. Now a days All thats left is for the Kings is to become wealthy. Elijah Muhammeds idea of the 85%, 10% and 5% is somewhat accurate

My mom goes every sunday she wears her best outfit she talks to all her friends. It's social. That's all it is. A way for a group to come together have a common belief and feel they are special and they belong.

As a person who, up until a few years ago, went to church each week, I'll try to share some of my insight into why people go.
Yes, some people go simply as a social activity. I've had friends who went to churches where the social aspect was more important to many of the attendees (my friends not included), and they took it so far that in some cases people were literally shunned if they did something that didn't reflect well on the church or their social clique. It's quite sad really.
Other people do indeed go to church to be fed spiritually. That was my reason for going. I have to tell you that I have never ever taken a liking to organized religion. I believe that the influence of men over time on the teachings and intentions of Christ have changed his ideal into something far too corrupt (in many, many ways) to participate in. However that is a much different discussion. :) Anyway, there are some churches out there that are not as screwed up as others, where it is possible to feel like there is a spiritual experience to be had each week, and where the pastor or minister who speaks does give a message that is worthy of hearing.
Some people go to church because they have to. A perfect example is a husband who doesn't want to go but does so anyway in order to please his wife. Kids are the same way.
There are people who attend services in order to learn more about Christ and spirituality. They may be people who have been raised in agnostic or atheist homes, but due to some life experience have decided to check out Christianity.
Those cover the bulk of people I've been around in churches. I'm sure there are other reasons that people go too, but I think those are the main ones. I hope that helped answer your questions.
First post for me, by the way. :) These forums are chock full of stimulating topics and I'm enjoying reading all of them.
