David raises something in the third part of the podcast that's got me thinking:

We see today, especially in the UK, a move towards Scottish and Welsh home rule and many regional assemblies in England. Counties and even small cities are now often getting their own independant TV stations. Now on one level this seems like a good thing. I'm in favour of smaller, national, regional local govts.

But on the other hand, like so much in this world, we see a double-edged sword. Many Welsh nationalists and members of the Welsh assemby are in favour of going into Europe. My own uncle, who sits on the national executive of Plaid Cymru, is too. He is part of a new movement in Wales called "Federalism". It is calling for leaving the United Kingdom and becoming an independant state in the EU. And the fools can't see that this is a contradiction in terms!

In conclusion: The devolving of smaller political units from existing nation states could be a feint to disolving those existing nation states and making it easier to absorb those new units into the European Union. The regions will be led up the garden path by the idea of being free from Westminster rule only to embrace a far more terrible dictatorship!

Whew! Talk about jumping out of the frying pan into the fire!
