Looking for help in finding a good survival book(s) and DVDs; so much stuff out there I was hoping some of you familiar with this kind of stuff could offer some suggestions.
Thanks.

It covers all the essentials and is a good place to start. There's a handbook and full size version available.
http://www.amazon.com/SAS-Survival-Handbook-John-Wiseman/dp/0002171856
And then of course there's Ray Mears!
You could try wildsurvival.com, that looks pretty good but it's riddled with pop-ups.

Hi,
A lot of usefull info on this site.
http://www.woodcraftwanderings.org/
Also lots of places around the country providing bushcraft and survival training, lots for beginners which provide a real fun weekend experience where you can pick up some essential outdoor skills.

I have a massive collection, i can email any of you them on word doc or note pad docs, or i can burn them to disc for you providing you pay for the postage. I hosted them on my blog but my blog disapeared when i posted the real unedited blue planet project on their. BUT, i reserved another blog with the same name so i can host them if you want me to.
By Ray Mears, and buy the £5 pocket s.a.s survival (with first aid, self pritection, mountain climbing, food, healing, etc etc..)
Also buy 'edible food on any contenent', cant remember the publisher. and obviously buy a pocket book on trees and shrubs for identification and animals for the contenent your on...and learn the cycles, I.E, how to trap water, clean it with rocks and leaves, science based knowlege will serve you well.

A lot of the podcasts featured on this page deal with a post-oil/industrial world, 'the re-localization of community & agriculture' and a healthy outlook on many diverse subjects.

I think one of the main things to do is to practice the skills once you have the info that tells you what to do. Try building a fire from scratch or making traps rather than getting into that situaion and not knowing.

That's definitely good advice if ever I heard it. No point knowin the theory and not the practical. Get out there and get a feel for things.

I`ve got both, the pocket-size one cost a whopping 59p from a charity shop ;) Also the driver`s survival book from the same author and one from the 70`s "Survival for young people" by Anthony Greenback.
