In the distant future Earth is divided into two camps, the barely civilized group and the overly civilized one with mental powers. A plague is attacking the second group after which it's members cease to have any interest in life and become nearly catatonic. When Sean Connery one of the barbarians, crosses over, the tenuous balance in their world is threatened.

Equilibrium,Starman,All the Alien films(sigourney weaver),Close encounters of the 3rd kind,An american werewolf in london,A.I,Contact,Kes,The changeling, evil dead,Aeonflux....dont think thats the full list, will add more later.:)....the others, schindler's list, the fantastic Midnight express, deliverance and i dont believe i left this one off,but this film is truly brilliant "The green mile",normally i cant stand tom hanks but he was superb in that film.
War of the worlds,both versions.
Tron.
Airplane.
you know, maybe i'm getting to be an old fart, but i won't subject myself to crap like this any more. somebody gave me all kinds of grief on the forum about not wanting to see "apocalypto", but i just can't stand that kind of stuff anymore. when i was much younger, i used to look for movies like that all the time. i used to love the "creature feature" on saturday night telly.
after reading that post on morgellon's, i saw the trailer for "bugs" with ashley judd, and i just about got ill. i also saw the trailer for spiderman iii, and the black websuit made me think of it too.
a movie i saw just this week that i love is "defending your life" by albert brooks. it's hysterically funny and it's very spiritual. :)
"children of men" was the best movie of 2006, imo. quite a bit of secret government imagery in it. there's a scene where the song "in the court of the crimson king" is playing, and the scene/song just haunted me for weeks.

Yeah, I have to agree that Borat is just my kind of humor. It has to be a bit off-color for me to laugh, and that movie had me grinning in between the laughter, all the way through.
I have a lot of favorite movies, and they are, in no particular order:
Kill Bill, Volume 1 & 2
Fried Green Tomatoes
Lord of the Rings, 1 thru 3
Star Wars, All of them
Alien, All of them
The Hours
The Matrix
Anything with Jet Li
Total Recall
Terminator, All of them
Pirates of the Caribbean, All of them but the last one, Dead Man's Chest, was superb!
Beetlejuice
Batman begins
Devil's advocate
A perfect murder (remake of Dial M for murder)
A.I.
Independence Day
The Bourne Identity, and Bourne Supremacy
House of Flying Daggers (I really enjoy martial arts movies!)
....and the list goes on.

Jesus,i could i forget the matrix films.
I cant for the life of me understand why the last matrix film was roundly slated.
It was f**king brilliant, loved every second of it.i suspect the criticism came from the arty-farty brigade.
And again,i left batman begins out of my list.
I think Christian bale as something about him, superb actor, only johnny deppe can match him in Edward scissorhands as bale does in Equilibrium.
Did deppe win anything for scissorhands?
I dont usually go over the top for hollywood stars, but theses 2 guys are the best.....recently surprised to find out that bale is welsh.

It has to be 'Day of the Dead' (1985) for me. The film simply critiques Western civilisation brilliantly and is the last great American horror film, in my eyes. It is by far the best of the 'Dead' series, and that is saying something. 'Day' needs to be watched, more than once, simply because the first time you watch it, you expect 'Dawn of the dead' again, but this film is so much more. On its second viewing the dialogue and themes, mainly the hysteria of masculinity (that pervades and structures the entire hierarchy of our culture) and the ravages of capitalism really grab a hold of you. Sheer brilliance Romero at his peak with a budget of a couple of million.
Oh Yeah, almost forgot the dialogue is simply fucking hilarious, here's one of the best lines in the film .

When i first saw the film in the 80's,you think its just gore n horror for the sake of it.......but it aint, theres a message there....as you rightly point out false......maybe thats why after all this time people know of the film, are interested in it,even if they dont know quite why.............you cant kid people, theres summat instinctive about zombie films.......there's always a message.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, I simply love this film. :)
In fact all my favourite films were directed by ex-Python Terry Gilliam.
Fear and Loathing
Time Bandits
Brazil
Jabberwocky
The Meaning of Life
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Twelve Monkeys
The Fisher King
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen
The Life of Brian... not directed by Gilliam, but he was in it. "We've got lumps of it round the back!"... classic. :D
I also love the original Star Wars trilogy, I was Star Wars crazy as a kid. :) However Return of the Jedi was a wee bit of a let down, Ewoks just weren't my thing as a kid. :p

I know what you mean about more recent movies, one recent movie does spring to mind and that's Memento, that was good.
Edit: Just remembered another great one - Jacob's Ladder, wow!. Highly recommended.
Damit janet , i love goth punk looking women but strangely it was susan sarandon that did it 4 me in that maybe the big eyes or was that pants lol .Oh for the big screen experience lmao .:D

I went to a Rocky Horror night a film theatre in Inverness a few years ago, that was brilliant, a lot of people dressed up as characters from the film. The local radio station had set up a charity fundraising night. Unforgetable experience.
Columbia, played by Little Nell (aka Laura Cambell) did it for me!. ;)

They were just superb! Every time I watch them I realize more and more how Tolkien was trying to tell us something more...
http://www.globalfailure.com/images/sauron.jpg
"One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them."
"If we look back in history for evidence of the ring's origin we must once again transport 6000 years to ancient Sumer, and rely on the lost, now found and finally translated clay tablets and copper cylinders of the God-kings. These were the original God-kings of Mesopotamia who kingly power was given them from heaven! Once translated, this pictorial history of the Anunnaki overlords, demonstrated that they ruled their earthly kingdoms through the creation of a Grand Assembly (parliament). This Grand Assembly was consisted of eight councilors: one for each kingdom or region. The eight members included seven males and one female. They were given and ruled by their rings, which were reported to be of divine power. It was Ring power that was responsible for the establishment of municipal government and kingly rule."

You made the mistake of asking people what ANY of their favorites are. Instead you should have asked what their number 1 favorite movie is, that way we would have filtered out all the filler films and we would know what the most relevant ones are. There's no such thing as an original movie I don't think. Humanity is operating at a fraction of it's true potential. Look at it this way: There are 6 billion humans on this earth. One would think we would have a plethora of Art to choose from. Do you know what's in the middle of Reno? Is it a huge statue like those found in Egypt to depict and celebrate humanity? Oh no, that would be too good for us. Instead we have a large cluster of casino's --the heart of the city-- to celebrate the robbery and enslavement of humanity. In a world that isn't controlled by the slave-drivers, there would be nothing but depth and genius. They do a fantastic job at making this world a piece of shit.
No I can't be original either. There's too little to choose from to be original. It's even worse asking me for a good PC video game. Out of infinite possibility... all we have is a ightly controlled industry that pumps out system serving games.

I disagree with this statement. This is the 'ignorance is bliss' mentallity. In our manufactured prison cell, there is too much suffering for an individual to be happy without doing it selfishly. In other words, while everyone else suffers, you ignore all that and try to be happy, and that is a selfish thing. While it isn't healthy to stay in a depressed state, it is equally as unhealthy to avoid the doom and gloom.

Well, as usual, I'll say fuck it and recommend a movie any way. Check out the Spanish film Pan's Labyrinth. You would think it's aimed at Harry Potter fans on the cover, but it is darker than even the LOTR movies. I haven't seen a good movie in a while, and I'd be surprised if you didn't like this one.

well, really, when you get down to it, there are only about 9 stories or so.
yes, we keep recycling the same stories.
until the journey of the hero is lived, they will always be stale stories, outside the realm of experience.
it is up to each generation to re-interpret the stories, to bring them alive.

Mr. Hand: What is this fascination with truancy? What is it that gets inside of your heads? There are some teachers at this school who look the other way at truants. It's a little game you both play. They pretend they don't see you, and you pretend you don't ditch! Now, in the end, who pays the price? YOU!
[Desmond re-enters; Spicoli follows him. He has a bagel stuffed into crotch; with open shirt, barefoot, holding Vans]
Jeff Spicoli: [Desmond re-enters; Spicoli follows with bagel stuffed into crotch; with open shirt, barefoot, holding Vans] Wait a minute, there's no birthday party for me here! Hello, Mr. Hand.
Mr. Hand: What's the reason for your truancy?
Jeff Spicoli: Just couldn't make it on time.
Mr. Hand: You couldn't, or you wouldn't?
Jeff Spicoli: See, there was a full crowd at the food lines.
Mr. Hand: Food will be eaten on YOUR time. Why are you continuously late for this class, Mr. Spicoli? Why do you shamelessly waste my time like this?
Jeff Spicoli: [long pause, but then with complete truth in his answer] I don't know.
Mr. Hand: [Mr. Hand goes to blackboard and writes the words 'I Don't Know', then underlines them]

Mr. Hand: I like that. 'I Don't Know.' That's nice.

I would show up for exams I aced cuz like history and well just easy shit but Id go home have a spliff at around 1pm then go to the local joint to meet up with friends when they finished their classes. My fav all time teacher I must say. Now I look back and think the man poor fuck no life nothing, hated his job just needed the money. Bless him. Cheers

As Borat would say, it was a niiiiiice.....
As Borat would say, it was a niiiiiice.....
Borat: [while driving] Look, there is a woman in a car! Can we follow her and maybe make a sexy time with her?
Driving Instructor: No, no, no, no, no, no!
Borat: A-why not?
Driving Instructor: Because a woman has the right to choose who she has sex with.
Borat: [stunned] WHAT...? You joke?
Driving Instructor: It must be consentual. How 'bout that?
Borat: [turns to Instructor, pauses] Ahahahahaha!
Driving Instructor: That's good, huh?
Borat: [pause] Is not good for me.
OK!! I give in :p I am going to watch Borat. I bought a heap of DVDs in Bali and haven't watched that one yet. BBL :D
this should have gone in the movie quote thread, so forgive me...
Howard Beale: [shouting] You've got to say, 'I'm a HUMAN BEING, Goddamnit! My life has VALUE!' So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, [shouting] 'I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!' I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it:
Arthur Jensen: It is the international system of currency which determines the vitality of life on this planet. THAT is the natural order of things today. THAT is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today. And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature. And YOU WILL ATONE. Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? You get up on your little 21-inch screen and howl about America, and democracy. There is no America; there is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arthur Jensen: You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won't have it. Is that clear? You think you've merely stopped a business deal? That is not the case. The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back. It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity. It is ecological balance. You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations; there are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems; one vast, interwoven, interacting, multivaried, multinational dominion of dollars.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arthur Jensen: The world is a business, Mr. Beale; it has been since man crawled out of the slime. Our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that perfect world in which there's no war or famine, oppression or brutality - one vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock - all necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused. And I have chosen you, Mr. Beale, to preach this evangel.
Howard Beale: Why me?
Arthur Jensen: Because you're on television, dummy. Sixty million people watch you every night of the week, Monday through Friday.
Howard Beale: I have seen the face of God.
Arthur Jensen: You just might be right, Mr. Beale.

Yeah, you know, I really loved IRobot also. First of all, I really love Will Smith, but even without him it was a great movie. Really made me think.
Also, Minority Report. How could I forget that? One of my favorite parts is when he's having the eye transplant, and the nurse is singing that Swedish song about a frog (or a toad or something).
The Manchurian Candidate!! Oh wow! Love that one too. Just superb!
V for Vendetta, brilliant but unsettling. I just can't relax when I watch it. Love it anyway.
Dunno how I forgot these, I own them all! Geez!

If I had to choose one I would say Clockwork Orange. It is an incredible story about free will. The will to do what we want no matter how awful but with the choice to decide. We have the free will to murder if we wish although it is wrong and will likely be punished for it but as humans we should continue to have the conscious right to make our own minds up not have it thrust upon us.
The film I think is meant to be set in the future which I suppose is now, as the film was made in the early 70's. There are some startling similarities with today-mindless violence out of control, overcrowded prisons, prisoners being released early, desperate government trotting out more social control policies ie asbos, talking cctv cameras, Id cards Biometrics iris scans (Alex de Large being strapped down with his eyes forced open!).
Then there is the music set to the film: Beethoven's 9th, Rossini's Thieving Magpie. When ever I hear the Thieving Magpie I do actually think of violence which is funny because that is what makes Alex try to commit suicide after he is forced to watch the films with the 9th in the background.
After I had watched it a few times I came to the conclusion that the structure of the whole film was based around Beethoven's 9th. There are three small themes that run early in the film: beating up the tramp, fighting with his fellow droogs, then raping the women while the husband watches. These could represent the first three movements of the 9th, Then, in the final part of the film after he becomes homeless he meets the tramp who beats him up, then is taken away by 2 policemen who used to be the droogs he beat up, they nearly drown him, then he ends up back in the house of the women he raped. The 4th movement of the symphony starts with small snippets of parts of the first three movements as a re-cap. The film ends with the last few bars of the last movement. Beethoven could of been chosen by writer Anthony Burgess because he was extremely outspoken when it came to the freedom of men in a time when free speech was forbidden. Anyway, sorry I've rambled on a bit.

yes, that's a good insight. here's the other side to that. beethoven was a leader in the romantic movement, and supported napoleon. we know how that turned out.
i feel like at least part of what burgess was trying to convey was the danger of romanticism running amok. this is a ruined version of what beethoven dreamed of. the droogs were born out of alienation and indulgence. it's very much like the psychological landscape of today, minus the lame decor :)

Yes Beethoven did admire Napolean for leading the French away from their monarchy and installing a republic. He was due to call his 3rd symphony 'Napolean' but when he heard that Bona had declared himself Emperor of France he went apeshit and furiously scribbled his name off the cover to the manuscript and made some immortal quote that I can't remember, then called it the Eroica.

The movie selections so far are so cliche. Same old, same old. Obsolutely no originality here. And we're supposed to be awake?
There are messages within a lot of movies it may not be the whole that conveys the message , but im sure the enlightened minds working within the film industry try and put messages in for us just the same as the negatives who attempt to control and subvert us do with all the holy wood

The "job" of our illustrious "Entertainment Industry" is not to amuse and educate... rather to "dummy down" and indoctrinate the masses (Sally Soccer Mom and Joe Sixpack and their politically correct "prodigy" of the "successful Education System") to be:
Indignantly offended if suggestion is made of their naive attitudes towards anything short of Soap Operas and Wrestling` Matches ( substitutions can very easily be made... Cop Shows, Judge Judy or Geraldo, etc.) interjected with a game show or two.
So used to the same old same old that to be bored is acceptable... on many fronts and levels. Hey kids, computer viruses are developed by bored teenage "latchkey kids" as by Techno Nerds... given the boredom, technology and the time (Mom nor Dad never get home before Five Thirty or so, shame both have to work so I can complain about not getting the Air Jordans), anything is possible! (Especially when there are no Elders [that`s why God made Nursing Homes], responsible role models [Snoop Dog or George Bush... cover the entire spectrum]...], or as a whole, the safe, two parent home atmosphere)
So afraid... (the "Condition" will never be green again, not allowed) of everything (all look for a Savior or an escape hatch... video games to psychotropic alterations, the Internet chat room or TV Evangelists) the "ostrich syndrome" is common place any more.
It is a good thing that once "awakened", the smoke and mirrors are less efficient and honest discovery is allowed to penetrate the "conditioned mind".

Yeah, a HUGE turnaround.
"what type of people might they be ?".......conditioned, indocrinated, are a couple of words that come to mind, and I mean totally, like the majority of religious people. his western shirts and leather, always look so boss
Funky with his body, he's a king

You can best believe that, he's a macho man

He's a special person in anybody's land.

Fallen
Directed by Gregory Hoblit
Warner Bros. 01/98 DVD/VHS Feature Film
R -- violence, language
Denzel Washington is John Hobbes, a highly decorated homicide detective who is present at the execution of Edgar Reese (Elias Koteas), a serial killer he apprehended. The murderer passes on to him a riddle and a curse delivered in some undecipherable language. When two new murders are committed in Reese's operating style, Hobbes finds himself caught up in feelings of paranoia. The key to the influx of chaos in his life hinges on his discoveries at the cabin of a cop who was found dead years ago. Just before he died, he wrote Azazel (the Aramaic word for evil) on the wall. The dead officer's daughter Gretta (Embeth Davidtz), a theology professor, helps Hobbes confront the demonic forces running amok in his life.
This tense and compelling supernatural thriller written by Nicholas Kazan and directed by Gregory Hoblit reminds us that evil often seems to be on the attack in the lives of those who are tenacious in their pursuit of justice and truth. Hobbes's willpower and his ethical stamina are further tested in relationships with his brother (Gabriel Casseus), his partner (John Goodman), and his superior (Donald Sutherland).
Fallen provides an eerie occasion to ponder the clash between good and evil. It vividly reveals that we can run from demons but not hide from them. Eventually, we have to take a stand against evil.
With LOVE.

Fight Club.
Favorite movie of all time. It's not that it's touching or that the fights are that cool or something. It's the story. But not just the story, it's also the ideologies presented from Tyler in that movie. But not just Tyler's ideas and believes, but also their actions and how they communized to make it happen.
Some others after that:
Donny Darko
Akira
Final Fantasy VII: Avent Children
Tron
Pi

:) yepp, I've seen 'Saw' and 'The Hills Have Eyes' (the old and the new)
But it's something with new horror movies , I just don't like them....
But Saw is one of the few who REALLY works for me:D
And you also like M Night Shyamalan movies (lady in the water, the village)
All his movies are creepy as hell, I dont know how he does it:eek:
i know what you mean about the new horror movies...they're all the same, really violent and gorey but not spooky, and have you noticed they all have the same kind of greenish artcover work for the dvds..can't remember the proper term lol for the artwork. :o
i loved the first sAW, so original, and the fact that the acting is crap some of the time and it doesn't all fit perfectly only adds to its appeal. That film freaked me out so much, it really got tme and still does, it was so clever.
You have to see Creep though, i'm a real girly girl trying to be tough lol but i could barely stomach it neither could my OH lol
I love Knight Shyamalan, omg he's a genius! We saw Unbreakable the other night, with bruce willis and samuel l jackson...very good story about comic book heros...not my fav but brill film anyway. i don't know how that shaymalan does it, the village is pure what's been done to humanity and is still being done, people believing in fear and monsters that the elders of the village created to keep the people from wandering outside and discovering the truth...he's too clever. :D
I realy think that with the new horrors, they're trying to numb people to violence somehow, i don't know there's a pattern emerging though with all of the ones being released.

Under the Tuscan Sun

Just a wonderful story...filmed in such a beautiful part of the world.
Oh that sounds like my sorta film Tin!! I love girlie nice stuff, not into gory, murder, torture, horror, blood, guts, suffering etc etc, it doesn't do anything for me except make me feel horrid, despite the other halfs efforts to make me watch them with the idea that they have a great storyline!!!
Im getting more into the sci-fi typa stuff though, years ago i wouldn't have dreamed of watching minority report but now i really like all those films, like AI, I-Robot, the Matrix etc etc!! Another great one was Unbreakable with Brucie and Sam L J!! Donnie Darko was hard to get my head round right untill the very end!!! :)

Oh yeah, Under the Tuscan Sun is SUCH a feel good movie. A wonderful tale of going where life takes you (life is like a river, go where it takes you), and finding a kind of happiness that she never expected to find. She realizes at the end that she'd gotten everything she asked for, but just didn't recognize it that way.
It's filmed in Italy. It's infused with Italian traditions and culture. It's an adventure, a love story, a comedy, and simply a work of art.
Totally a chick flick, but one of my absolute faves!

Kurt Vonnegut's novel became a movie in 1972, and has aired on a variety of PBS stations in the 1980's and 1990's. With the catchphrase "Billie Pilgrim has come unstuck in time", the movie follows Billie Pilgrim (Michael Sacks), who jumps back and forth in time living his life out of sequence and has no control over where he will go next. Throughout the movie we see Billie as a young soldier in World War II where he is captured by German Soldiers, a young man getting married, a father, and as an old man witnessing his own assassination. This begins to make sense for him when he finds himself on the distant planet Tralfamadore and the aliens lay it all out for him. Billie finally realizes that in order for him to survive even to his death, he must concentrate on the good things and ignore the bad in life. The name "Slaughterhouse Five" comes from the German prisoner camp he is held in briefly.

I´ve never been into mainstream movies, I always liked the independent, cult and obscure movies. Not the ones worshipped by cinema critics, like Clockwork Orange, I never got it, it never made sense to me. What´s the point in supporting a group of hooligans who need to rape and murder to need extreme violence to make their lives worth living?
It never made sense to me. Maybe it would nowadays, when while watching a movie I consider the ideologies behind them, what they are trying to say to us, etc. But when I was watching those movies as simple 'entertainment', 'culture' or a 'work of art' in the past, what´s the point in following the main character as a role model? Heroes in movies are our role models, heroes or villains, we should find a connection through them. It´s ideology spread by the system´s propaganda. What the 'freedom of the hippie culture' brought to us? Slavery to the drugs mafia, first said to be 'hip' by the likes of Beatles, Rolling Stones and Bob Marley, media puppets to the the criminal cartels and the establishment media , trough its connections of smuggling, mafia, etc. See to where it lead, criminal cartels who are more powerful than any police or governmet. And behind it all is the CIA and their Illuminati friends and their mind control programming.
The 'drug culture' of the 60's propaganda lead us to the 'drug mafia' who has power over entire cities in the third world (Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, for instance). The sex 'freedom' starting in the 60's lead us to this 'one night stand culture' where everyone should wear a condom and be very afraid of getting AIDS or something worse from its partner. everyone should have free sex since there's no human being envolved, just bodies, or parts of bodies, butts, titties, etc. But sex should envolve every ad, from any product we buy at the supermarket to what we wear.
I don´t go to movie theatres anymore, and I always watch a movie looking for its ideologies, the messages they´re passing us subliminally. Starting from this point of view, some mainstream movies I´ve never cared about before are way more interesting than some cult/ independent movies. They´re more interesting for the ideologies they´re passing and the moment we´re living though than anything else.
Rebel without a cause.
NO, I´M A REBEL WITH A CAUSE!

deconstructing movies can be fun and instructive.

There is a very interesting book (written in spanish though) by chilean writer
GASTON SOUBLETTE,he teaches in the university and had his students analyze different movies, and what everyone wrote was finally made into a book. MENSAJES SECRETOS DEL CINE(Secret messages of the cinema)
analyzed: LIGHTS IN THE CITY, Charles Chaplin
CASABLANCA, Michael Curtiz
Pinochio, Walt Disney
SINGING IN THE RAIN, Stanley Donen
2001 A SPACE ODDISSEY, Stanley Kubrick
He says in the preface. "A movie critic has said that each day it becomes more difficult to accept that the viewer is able to see in the cinema all there is to see, because in every movie there would always be a smugling of ideas."
Briefly, in CASABLANCA has the idea of "ilustrated Europe" who becomes friend with Uneilustrated America who has money,(H.Bogart) after the war,
with many other unity aspects. a movie of beautiful romance.
In Pinochio, in one part Pinochio's concience is looking at himself in the mirror happily, and then looks back and says "Oh ,did I forget about you?" showing how conciousness gets corrupted thinking only of himself.
According to the author after seeing 2001 Space Oddissey, Kubrick has tried in his interviews, more to mislead than to lead people....as id there is a secret history in all this ,although there is hardly any talk in the movie.
Kubrick talks about evolution in his interviews, but one must ask oneself if that is the main ideaFloyd is a vulgar man ,a rutinary bourocrat , a sothsayer who know the man's vanity that is why they tell him " We try to do things the way that pleases you". The fact that HAL is everywhere and NOTHING ESCAPES HIS EYE, is something like the substitute of God. The musical recourse of THUS SPOKE ZARATHUSTRA of Richard Strauss based on the work of Nietzsche, muscially it is anounced that god is dead. So HAL comes to represent the divinization of science, of mind, rationality, in other words, the atheist faith of the industrial era. HAL is the equivalent of the computer brand IBM.. The number 9000 ,where 9 is the number of perfection.
The struggle between man and the machine.
That is why the sun as a source of light, the planet Jupiter called the "king" and the sacred table that guides the heroe to accomplish his mission ,acquiere a mystic sense. More tha anything it seems to be the very sense of the world ,that which in the chinese philosophical tradition is designed with the word TAO. There is also shown the mutation of the nervous system and his hidden anatomy in the moment of liberation to superior energies."
In all other movies are hidden messages, that go very fast unnoticed,
it is interesting to analyze the symbolism we are always subjected to in our unconcious mind. The freemasons and Illuminatis are masters using SYMBOLISM ,since they know it can affect people, almost HYONOTIZE them
with the message they have placed there, a seed that begins to sink into everyone's mind. Much more is in the analisis of this movie, this is only jsut a very brief summary of it all.:D

14-07-2007, 09:45 AM
Also in 2001 SPACE ODDISSEY in the metaphoric sense, HAL would come to be the equivalent of the mythological monster that heroes kill to liberate life from the power of darkness and generalized perversity in society.;):):)

The fountain, that's why he was given a fountain pen. I liked how the guy was looking for eternal life because he feared death but found out that eternal life is dead (of a certain kind) and when you don't fear death he (you)found it. That's just a quick description. Also note how the tree (of life?) represented the female. The end, where she was burried, he planted a seed, says a lot about circle of life.

I saw Apocalypto recently. I didn't think I'd like it (and I sort of tried not to) but I did like it anyway.
It's just a damn good adventure story. I get bored easily by movies but this one
grabbed me right away and never let up.

I love this movie, but it could be better,

Enough to really enjoy yourself and with the sequel coming up next summer:D

Chris Carter, surferdude ;) He was really trying to do something with this series all along, he hasn't made much television since has he, if any? I wonder why ;)
It's so weird, after reading cooper's book etc i realised how everything i used to watch on x-files as a kid, seems to be actually how the world is

I LOVE that movie!!! it's pure subliminal manipulation over humanity, don't you think? :D
the way the clones (who aren't aware that they are clones) believe they are the last humans who have survived on earth after a terrible catasrophe of some kind...they do a lottery to win escape from the clone 'safe house' facilty to the one remaining unpolluted place on earth, which just happens to be a tropical island...however when they win this lottery to go to the island it actually means that their human owner in th eoutside world needs a body part, so the clone is actually going to be murdered...ther eis no island, planet earth has not been destroyed, there is no poison in the air outside...they're just "paid for body parts" of the wealthy...i think it's fantastic!

i don't remember that part ted :o it's been a while since i saw it and it was such a huge movie to take in, the part i found most shocking was when nic cage's character is in africa and he ends up in a 'hell' of his own making...when he awoke to find that black woman having sex with him and not using a condom...in a place riddled with AIDs (supposedly ;)) that really shocked me, and made me feel sick, just the consequences of that, he was a real bastard and it was incredible to see him paying the price after...in the end it worked out for him though didn't it? or did he lose everything, his wife and kid, i can't remember now.
The Amityville horror we saw last night...it was FANTASTIC! and though it'd be rubbish! :D
Extremely well done horror with an actual story that wasn't messed up. Andrew Douglas, brilliant director.

My favorite movie must be the Matrix I think :) I was so mad at myself for not seeing it in a movie theater after I finally watched the first one come out.
I made up for that when the last two came :) I will probably get them in HD quality as well, when I get something to play HD Dvd or Blue Ray. I have watched the Matrix so many times by now that it wouldnt be unlikely to think that it might have damaged my mind a bit more :o
Also Interview With the Vampire is a favorite of mine. I could go on, but then I do work in a movie theater and I like all kinds of movies.

If I would have to make a list of all the movie's I have seen and liked a lot I would be sitting behind my computer for the next four hours.
Unfortunately I don't have that much time this evening so here are my five best ones ever:
1) The Matrix
2) The Godfather I-III
3) Kill Bill vol.2
4) Zatoichi (Japanse, directed by Takeshi Kitano)
5) Angels in America
Angels in America is a mini series, not a movie adapted from a Pulitzer Prize winning play. If there is such a thing as perfection and it would have to be applied to a mini series this would be the one http://www.reel.com/movie.asp?MID=138927&PID=10113461&Tab=reviews&CID=18

In lord of war, when they describe andre baptist junior, they describe him doing things that sound like a ritual (reptilian). Something about taking out people's hearts and if I remember, eating them whilst it's still beating, ect.
I think the happy ending scenario with his wife is a different nic cage movie and the loosing it all scenario, wife and kid is the johnny depp drug movie.
In this one, the "by the book" guy (ethan hawk) that's after him finally catches him only to see nothing happen to him right in front of his eyes because he bribed ethan hawk's character's boss. Then he states that he's not stupid, they'll probably use him as a scapegoat in the future when the need arrives, but as long as there are guys at war, no matter what, there will be people like him.

I like to think of the x-men concept as one that is going on at the moment. It isnt "in a not so distant future". Heroes makes for a more realistic angle I think. Still unrealistic "mutants" there, but still. All good signs that we are awakening I globally I think.

Heroes has trauma based mind controll themes in them, and both heroes and xmen are loaded with mind controll themes. Yes, there are a lot of psychic children today, but a lot of them are used and abused by the illuminati.

Lord of the Rings, 1 thru 3
Star Wars, All of them
Alien, All of them
The Hours
The Matrix
Anything with Jet Li
Total Recall
Terminator, All of them
Pirates of the Caribbean, All of them but the last one, Dead Man's Chest, was superb!
Beetlejuice
Batman begins
Devil's advocate
A perfect murder (remake of Dial M for murder)
A.I.
Independence Day
The Bourne Identity, and Bourne Supremacy
House of Flying Daggers (I really enjoy martial arts movies!)
....and the list goes on.

Planet of the Apes The First One With Charleton Heston
I like the bit where the stupid ape says "Nonsense!" and screws up the paper dart without even trying to see if it does fly. A good parody of conventional science.

hey i just saw hearts in atlantis very interesting film - -- but im wondering if someone can help me remember the name of a movie I saw- might've heard about it here, dunno
it was about this weird mind control situation where people got things changed around a lot [like dark city but not] in a modern setting, with police that had technology way beyond what the people knew, near the end street 'gangs' wised up to what was going on and there were like hats for sale that shielded them from the frequencies or something.
it was an interesting film, maybe a bit strange too.
but for westerns I liked Renegade, and also for funny stuff history of the world part 1, or interstate 60.

I'm a fan of horror so here it is:
The Shining
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Blair Witch Project
Besøkarna
The Omen
Rosemary's Baby
The Exorcism Of Emily Rose
Hostel
The Sixth Sense
Contact
A Nightmare On Elm Street
The Forgotten
The Thing
Carrie
Night Of The Living Dead
The Wicker Man (2006)
Shaun Of The Dead
Fallen
The Ninth Gate
Hey chattanova, have you ever seen Peter Jackson's Dead Alive (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103873/) (AKA Braindead). No CGI, just brilliant over the top zombie comedy/gore beyond belief! LOOOOOOOVE IT! :)
Funny you chose two movies my Mom (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0085420/) is in (Emily Rose, Wicker Man). Here is my fav scene of her though :) from the 'unfortunate' (but fortunate!) remake of 'the Fog'. However, the original (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080749/) is awesome!

and Demolition Man (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106697/)! made in 1993! It's the New World Order, bang on! Extremely funny movie, Stallone was great, Sandra Bullock was hilarious, so was Benjamen Brat and Dennis Leary.
Note* Director Marco Brambilla: It was his first and last film, very strange.
Basic plot: It's 2032, a psycho killer (Wesley Snipes) is let out of 'cryo-prison' to kill the underground freedom leader of a 'group of savages and thieves' (Dennis Leary) and to start a revolution so the nutball leader can have complete control. Stallone is 'thawed out' to capture Snipes.
-population is micro-chipped
-cashless society
-no more guns
-meat, salt, cheese, spicey food, chocolate, smoking, drinking; all banned
-kissing, sex, physical contact; banned
-children are produced from a lab where genetics can be purified.
-your every move and word is video taped and recorded.
-swearing is a fine, a ticket comes out of a machine, no matter where u are "you have been fined one credit"
-music is banned. the only thing on the radio are old jingles from commercials "land of the jolly green giant", etc. lol.
-all the restaurants are Taco Bell (Pizza Hut in some foreign markets)
-Schwarzenegger is the former president (61st amendment to the constitution to allow foreign born to be prez). Isn't that the current case as well?! Obama born in Kenya? lol
-etc etc
Dennis Leary clip from the movie, so perfectly apt for today, an absolute must see :D
