Probably placebo. Someone mentioned an experiment where half of the test group were given LSD and the other half were given placebo and the result was that many of the persons given placebo had LSD trips just as strong as those who were given real LSD. lol. I don't remember what happened to the group who were given real LSD, whether all of them had an LSD trip. If the half who were given real LSD all experienced LSD trips, then LSD would likely have more effect than placebo, but if some of the person given real LSD were not affected at all, then LSD likely is placebo. Another story, I think it was Ram Dass, who were asked by an Indian guru to give him LSD, and when Ram Dass offered him a small dose of LSD, the guru said something like "give me all the LSD", and Ram Dass gave him what was a huge amount of LSD which the guru took, and the hours after that the guru remained totally unaffected!

I was thinking: maybe movies like this are a form of double-propaganda, a kind of faked military/scientific propaganda movie to aid the promotion of LSD later on through pop music and hippie movements etc?

That's certainly possible... What about the 60's acid writing boom... The Doors Of Perception etc... it seems weird that the literary establishment could ban DH Lawrence's sexual descriptions but allow a decription of LSD which pretty much advertises its, uh, qualities to the hip youth who read Huxley..
