There's a coincidence; I've come to realize that arguing with a skeptic is useless! I'm a member of this forum (under the username "Porterboy" if you want to see my contributions!), but I've not been back there for ages. A skeptic is trolling me on another forum too. This proves that I picked the right team!

Apologies for the typo. I meant "Skeptics" not "Skeptic's"
I'm a writer so these things niggle me.

How does it prove you picked the right team?

Because no "CT" has ever trolled me or called me names. I've found that people only make personal attacks when they know they're in the wrong.

Why join their board? to pick a fight? or are you a skeptic. I casually agreed with most of the posters on that forum, the main reason is that some people respond to their posts without having the full facts, and it makes us all look like assholes. Dickin around with non believers is not helping any cause whatsoever because they are exactly that, NON BELIEVERS!

I joined their board because I thought they'd welcome some alternative views. Very naive of me! Well I've quit now. You live and learn.
See the "art of debunking" thread on the general board. It really rings a bell with me.

I like the title of that thread "When Did You Realise That Arguing With a CT is Useless?"
Skeptics are utter stupid and basically a pawn for the GOVT to walk all over, tell them whatever and they believe it!
Heh,quite entertaining!

"What Skeptic's think of Us"
------------
Aren't many of us skeptics?
I'm totally skeptical about the official story about a number of things but I'm also skeptical about many things people believe as replacements for the official story. Even so, I'd like to stay open to possibilities but looking for some evidence or signs of something.
I browsed the Randi forum once (regarding 9/11) and it was really apparent that there is a difference between skepticism and being stuck within a barrier where certain things aren't questioned.
Galileo was skepical and his observations showed the Earth-centred model of the cosmos was false. If there were message boards in the 1600's, I'm sure there would have been a ton of "skeptics" claiming Galileo was crazy. They would have labelled him as nutty as anyone suggesting the stars and planets weren;t held in the heavens by spheres of crystal ;-)
---------
Part of being skeptical is realizing that our interpretation of Reality is filtered by our characteristics ... both our biology and it's limits and biases and our cultural learning.
As a very limited formation (ie, "biological" structure with cultural programming affecting our thinking) within Reality, I am aware that my view of Reality may be 0.0000001 of what is there.
So what's in the remainder of the 100% ?
I'm skeptical of people who claim to have a solid handle on the 100% ;-)

Some of them do have a point, but it doesn't have anything to do with CT in general, nor does it absolve the critics themselves from the same criticisms. It has to do with individuals. I have found that some people have cognitive dissonance when it comes to facts that refute their theories, be it CT or not. They do in general resort to ad hominem arguments.
The ultimate skeptic is the CT, especially when he is right.

Yeah, good point that :)
i have a soft spot for Skeptics society. If exposing supersticion, religious fraud, hypocricy, quack medics, charlatans, phony gurus and assorted new age bullcaca, is how they get down, more power to them.

Good luck!:D I you like a wrangele you'll be in the right place.
Since I started this thread I've been to the Skeptics in the Pub event. I was pleasantly surprised!:) I actually made a couple of friends there. They're very different to the JREF forum. I write about it here: http://www.davidicke.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31215
Also it bothers me that Skepticism (not "disbelieing", I mean the socio-scientific group thast debunks anything out-of-the-ordinary) seems more about developing skills in winning an argument by clever tricks and psychology, rather than by simple reason alone. See here; this is extremely interesting and useful... especially to you, Fekdemasons, if you're going on the JREF forum: http://www.discord.org/~lippard/stupid-skeptic-tricks.txt
I'll back you up on there if I can.:)

I know. It's mind numbeningly annoying. After talking to people who are that wholeheartedly devoted to their own ignorance for ten minutes you just want to bang your head against a wall, an activity which I find much more fertile and rewarding then actually talking to them. The similarities, by the way, are striking. I admire your fortitude. I don't do that anymore. It serves no purpose, they will have to realise it by their own force.
Poor creatures. They are in for a rough ride. The best we can do, really, is to be there for them when their world comes tumbling down.

Which just goes to show you that people on both boards are compensating for a lack a conviction in their beliefs. They need to reinforce their views with the mockery of other people and other beliefs.

It is because a skeptical mind will lean more towards reasons->causes->unintended effects.
And a conspiracy theoriest leans more towards intents->careful calculation->manifestation.
In all honesty many CTs come across as thinking they are somehow a pivotal piece in some ultimate drama within existence. And all others who are opposing them or adversely affecting their role in this drama, are somehow surgically precise gods amongst men who delight in only appearing half-witted.
See I am not perfect in the least. I had to edit my friggin message because I didn't think it through well enough. :(
...or is it that I am only appearing to be less than perfect, when it is all part of an agenda. Mwa ha haaaa.

I just thought it was time to get a different perspective.
How can I critisise people for not researching / listening to the alternative when I'm guilty of the same thing.
Having both perspectives and then finding what resonates from both camps I hope will give me a fresh angle.
Plus it will be enormous fun .

Their ranks are slowly but surely defecting!:) every so often they post a "letter from an ex-Skeptic" thread!
The problem is that it's so hard to disciuss the actual points because they're too busy insulting you and trying to wind you up. Either that or distracting and diverting you. Why would they need to use such chicanery if they were so sure they were right eh?;):D

True. It's always good to listen to both sides of the story. But beware of the style those who try to give you the "other side" use (See above posts). To hear the other side you're better off going to Skeptics in The Pub or the UK Skeptics forum. JREf are just SkeptiNazis(http://skeptic.org.uk/events/skeptics-in-the-pub

its quite amusing...... any ''CTer'' worth his salt can produce more supporting evidence for any said conspiracy than any sleeping individual can produce for their versions of the truth (they're ammunition always souly consists of the one sided MSM view..lol)

I took a look at http://www.ukskeptics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1235
A thread about Ickie.
To be honest what didn't make me shudder made me laugh.
Where as I see people who are digging for their own answers on forums like this one, there is seemed that it was a game of the smaller the circle, the more correct one was. Anyone outside that circle was a problem.
Spending ones life Identifying oneself by what one can't believe is a path to nothing.
Not my cup of tea.
One post said...
Stupidly I joined this madman's forum, and it is the most rudest place to go if you want to state why you do not belevie anything of Icke's
Erm.....
*Grin.
SO I assume they toddled back to where the reception was more in line with their own perception and they could happily mentaly jerk off about how deluded all CT's are and how incredibly normal non CT's are.
Here is another poster...
So yes, their way of thinking seems incredible to us and the things they believe too way out to comprehend, but I would say that a lot of these people are attracted to such ideas due to various forms and levels of psychiatric disorder.
and one more
A bunch of nut cases... sad world out there!
They seem to think we are mental.
If the choice is to be classed as such, or join them...
I'll stay right here.

There's the fact that most self proclaimed "skeptics" are atheists, and have already rejected all supernatural explanations for anything that happens. They refuse to believe in God, so they cook up the convoluted and scientifically impossible Darwinst garbage. They CAN'T see the truth because they've deliberately blinded themselves and ONLY admit what their narrow "science" can tell them.
It's like trying to convince a blind man rainbows exist, when he refuses to believe anything he can't see. He can't see ANYTHING so he will believe NOTHING!

It is a long documentary... And pretty old, not the best quality, but worth the watch.
