This is something I've discovered personally in a park near my home. It's weird because the grass inside them looks different the the grass outside it. I went there again today, but unfortunaely the grass has been cut this morning so that most of the "prints" have been obliterated.

Maybe a pair of heavy workboots with some kind of greasy oily substance on the soles? They appear to have damaged the grass, perhaps chemicaly.

Yeah me too, one of my friends when i was kid suggested they could have been made by a radioactive donkey, a spider donkey if you will.:D

Could be, but then I'd expect the damage to be worse near the source of the prints and gradually fade away as the residue came off the soles of the boots. In a similar way, if you step in a puddle you leave a few wet prints on the pavement for a few strides, but then as your feet dry out the prints get fainter and fainter until they no longer show.

That's very odd! Shame it happened so long ago, before photography was widely in use. I might mention it on the blog article, and I won't forget to say that I learned it from you. Thanks.:)

I'll keep a camera handy in cse one appears in the park!:D

Seriously though, I'm thinking of doing a nightime stakeout there.

They cut the grass in the park yesterday morning so most of the "footprints" have been obliterated. Looks like we got in there just in time! However, the surviving marks are still there. The grass inside them is still very distinct, but it is changing. Today it looked quite a bit drier. This is grass grwoing there; not clippings from the mowers.
