Hi folks,

Whats your take on this story?

Speaking at Downing Street he said: "All our armed forces should be able to, and encouraged to, wear their uniform in public and have the respect and gratitude of the British people for the huge commitment to public service they show.

respect and gratitude?

not for me. If i dont agree with the war, how can I respect those who carry it out?. Why should the armed forces automatically expect respect from the public.

If you wear a military uniform in public , you are making a statement. I think its unreasonable in a free thinking society to expect everyone to kiss your ass, and say thanks.

Whats your take folks.

Cheers.

This was a response to RAF Wittering pesonell being subject to 'abuse' by residents of Peterborough with a large Muslim population. On the local news however the squaddies interviewed all said they had no personal experience of insults to them.

Is it any wonder though that Muslim youths would feel agrieved by all the lies, deception and hatred towards them and their religion by a manipulated event and a pointless continuous war.

An awful lot of media attention in the news lately makes me think something orchestrated is planned?????????

Uniforms are for "official business" only, no other purpose.

In a way it is a good sign, shows that people are not supporting the war
i do feel for the troops as a lot of people sign up seeing it to be a way to get out of the life they are in
i have been watching the series White which is on the BBC and they are reporting from Peterborough next !!!!!!!!!!!!!

i found the programme disturbing as i dont understand why they didn't show the opinions of all the separate communities for balance

i feel it is fueling the segregation the next programme is about the rivers of blood speech , although i agree this subject is up for debate i would have liked to see a more positive slant on the subject along side the negative

Hi first time poster here.

Just my impulse thought. Would the reintroduction of uniformed armed forces notbe useful for conditioning acceptance of more and more authority figures walking and 'policing' our streets, come 2012 or whenever the police state starts to fully take grip?

Some TV programme couple of years back did an experiment where they told people on the streets not to walk on cracks a and other stupid orders , they had one man in plain clothes and an other in uniform saying it .people responded more to the person in uniform even thought it wasn't a recognized authority type uniform just made up for the TV . So they believe we are psychologically prone to obey people in uniform so as haribohero says part of the conditioning they want to bring in :D

It is about raising the profile of the military in society. "Glamourizing and glorfying" them as the "14 signs of fascism" document said:

4. Supremacy of the Military... Soldiers and military service are glorified and glamourized.

I can see myself getting into a lot of agravation once Soldiers start wearing their uniforms in pubs etc. Why? Not because I'm going to give them a hard time for it. I think really soliders don't mind people coming up to them and starting trouble because they know that deep down resentment towards them is based on envy. An "I'm going to pick a fight with you you because you've got so much more conventional status than me!" kind of thing. This still massages their egoes even while people are hurling abuse and fists at them. What I do is just treat them normally. I was once challenged in a London pub by a bunch of uniformed soldiers because I was sitting with someone else and not looking at them. My friend kept glancing at them and took his opportunity to speak with them later, but I just acted normally, enjoying my conversation with my friend. That's what they can't stand: indifference. They get very peeved when people are not affected by their presence. They desperately need people to be "squaddie struck", whether in a positive or negative way. They are conditioned by propaganda to believe that they are a superior breed and expect everyone else to show them reverence and fascination.
