No, O.T.O. is not irregular. When we say "irregular", we refer to non-Masonic bodies pretending to be Freemasons.

The O.T.O. does not pretend to be Freemasonry, so it is not considered irregular. It declares itself "Ordo Templi Orientis", not a Masonic Grand Lodge.

As to "promoting Judaism", everybody promotes their own religion, so Jewish Masons will promote Judaism, just like Christian Masons will promote Christianity and Hindu Masons will promote Hinduism.

I'll try to verify the authenticity of that article; it's sort of difficult because the only references I can find are conspiracy theory sites.

Regardless, if it *is* authentic, the author doesn't know much about Masonry. It is true that Masonry, at least in the Blue Lodge and Royal Arch Chapter, are based around legends and stories from the Old Testament. But that's entirely different than saying it's based on Judaism...in fact, Judaism isn't even mentioned.

It also ignores the point that in the high degrees of the Scottish Rite, Masonry is there based on Christian chivalry, oriental mysticism, and Greek philosophy without even the slightest peep of Judaism.

Yes, that's what led to the Grand Orient of France having their recognition revoked from the United Grand Lodge of England, and the US and Canadian Grand Lodges.

In the late 1800's, the Roman Catholic Church in France attacked Freemasonry pretty venomously on the grounds that Masonry was a religion in opposition to Catholicism. To back up their claims, they pointed out that candidates in Masonry must confess belief in God and be obligated on the Bible.

The Grand Orient of France therefore removed the prerequisite that candidates confess belief in God, and removed the Bible from the Lodge room. This did not placate the Church, who still condemns Freemasonry as a "naturalistic and humanistic religion". The only thing it really did was cause their recognition to be revoked by the other Masonic bodies.

Today, they and their Lodges continue to admit atheists and agnostics. The National Grand Lodge of France, which requires belief in God from members, is the recognized Masonic authority there. They and the Grand Orient have no fraternal relations.
