Spies to bug our baked beans

COMMENT ON THIS STORY

A COUNCIL is planning to catch residents who leave rubbish out on the wrong day — with cameras hidden in BAKED BEANS tins.

Sneaky Ealing Council in West London will also put the tiny CCTV bugs inside house bricks to film offenders.

Householders caught breaking strict new rubbish rules — dubbed “enviro-crimes” — will be fined up to £1,000.

The surveillance plans have outraged residents who say it is the latest example of Big Brother Britain. It follows a £2million scheme adopted by six councils to put the devices in wheelie bins.

A spokesman for Tory-controlled Ealing yesterday said the £200 movement-sensitive bugs — which may be placed on existing rubbish piles — would become a “vital tool” in catching wheelie bin mis-users and graffiti artists.

He said: “To catch vandals and enviro-criminals, cameras disguised as anything from tin cans to house bricks will instantly email images to the council’s CCTV control centre.”

He added that people who put their rubbish out at all times of the day and night will be targeted. The Ealing Tory councillor responsible for environment Will Brooks said anyone who broke the laws would be considered a fly-tipper.

But local resident Danny Christie, 64, branded the scheme as “utterly insane”.

It's changing so fast, we only go tthe brown wheelie bins last summer, then they bugged them with a chip now this.

Hey everybody, we've got a Sun reader on this forum! Alert! :D :D :D

Joking aside, it is getting out of hand in the UK but it seems to me that a lot of the Big Brother stuff is focused around London.

Yes particulary North West London, I live in one of the boroughs which has borders with Ealing and all four North West london outer boroughs seem to be the first with all the big brother stuff. I know NATO has a huge underground HQ in Northwood which may be the reason for this, perhaps they are tesitng the new technology and the tightening of laws on their doorstep.

The high school i attended was the first school in the UK, to be fitted with CCTV back in 1994 and it was supposed to be used for student security, but was only ever used to catch late arrivals, kids smoking and bunking off.

There are perhaps hundreds of these new lamp post style mobile phone masts appearing mainly in North West London too, I am actively compiling a record of all and will be posting a new thread once i have documented all and shown on a map how close all are in proximity to each other. They are not the average type of looking mast and some are even being disguised as telegraph poles.
