"A pentagram (sometimes known as a pentalpha or pentangle or, more formally, as a star pentagon) is the shape of a five-pointed star drawn with five straight strokes. The word pentagram comes from the Greek word πεντάγραμμον (pentagrammon), a noun form of πεντάγραμμος (pentagrammos) or πεντέγραμμος (pentegrammos), a word meaning roughly "five-lined" or "five lines".

Pentagrams were used symbolically in ancient Greece and Babylonia. The pentagram has magical associations, and many people who practice Neopagan faiths wear jewelry incorporating the symbol. Christians once more commonly used the pentagram to represent the five wounds of Jesus, and it also has associations within Freemasonry.

The pentagram has long been associated with the planet Venus, and the worship of the goddess Venus, or her equivalent. It is also associated with the Roman word lucifer, which was a term used for Venus as the Morning Star, associated with the bringer of light and knowledge. It is most likely to have originated from the observations of prehistoric astronomers. When viewed from Earth, successive inferior conjunctions of Venus plot a nearly perfect pentagram shape around the zodiac every eight years.

The word "pentacle" is sometimes used synonymously with "pentagram", although their technical usages are different, and their etymologies may be unrelated.

I cant think of a more talked about , mentioned symbol then This pentagram . It is clear that this Star of David has affected human kind for decades of years . Some say it is for good and others say itīs an evil force behind this amazing star. I have it tattooed on my left arm as a sigill. But the star comes in many forms and shapes . What are your thoughts about this star and how has it affected you ?

Its good to see all the pentagrams round here. It adds protection and cleansing to the forum :)

In also like to add, that it has a purifying/cleansing effect and is associated sometimes with fire as a magickal tool.

It contains a phi spiral, which based on torsion physics may be why it generates the energy (which i imagine as a cone coming up)

What a nice way to shed some light on this well known symbol, and what it really stands for to the people who actually use it.

It was very wrongly associated with satanism on a symbolism site that I think was called exposing satanism or something similar, clearly showing it has a quite one sided veiw of it. The site even shows the YinYang symbol as a satanistic symbol, along with the peace symbol and quite a few others.

The few symbols actually satanic related that I know of is the upside down cross, the upside down pentagram and the horned hand.

I first learned of the meaning of the upside down pentagram by watching x-files :) It was an episode about good and evil witchcraft.
