Who's seen it?

Who can provide some info on what the monster was supposed to be? Or is it a total creation of the writers.....

I'm sure there must be SOME rumour or legend out there talking of arachnid/reptilian/dinosaur monsters lurking in the deep....

Saw the movie couple of weeks ago. Not a big fan. It was ok. But the steadycam shots, and random jumps in the timeline, were very weird. Parts were ok.

As for the monster, for probably the first half of the movie, i thought it was a godzilla remake. But there is the big monsters, which sometimes looked like a dinosaur, sometimes like a bat and little ones like the things that come from the sand in Half-Life 2. lol.

It wasn't even really about the 'monsters'. It was about the group of 4 people, and how they experienced the 'attack' which was extremely 9-11 ish, with buildings exploding, clouds of ash and paper floating in the air.

Recommendation: rent, don't buy :)

I actually liked the movie. I like that fact that it was totally different than the rest of the movies released recently.
But as far as the monster goes, and first I thought it was some kind of octopus/squid thing. Then I thought it might be a spider. And then some kind of wingless bat. Really, you can't define it. You can clearly see it in the movie, but you still have no idea what it is. I also heard through the rumor mill, that it's a baby....so that would make for one giant pissed off parent if a sequel ever comes along...

avoid this film it is one of the worst films i have ever seen, it easily ranks up (or should that be down) there with the blair bitch project, also it has started a discussion in the usa about whether refunds should be given if a film is crap( they shouldn't give a refund, you pay your money you take your choice) after so many people walked out of it, it also has been dropped from more cinemas in it's first week than any other movie.

p.s if you liked the blair witch project, may i suggest you put down the blunt scissors and take a nap you're obviously very tired.;)

I also thought it was bad. This multi angle camera shot in quick succession is highly annoying... and I think could well turn out be a programming technique. Its certainly not high art and seems to have invaded program making. This film is an insight into how to do everything wrong in an emergency though.

PS. Aliens v. Predator 2 is the worst film I've ever seen pushing 'Crossroads' into the number 2 slot.

I guess the idea behind the Blair Witch Project was somewhat good, but I didnt like how it was done. This movie though, Cloverfield, I liked. Also I think it was very well done making all those CGI effects on a moving camera.

It does make it harder to do believable CGI, when it has to made look as part of the background or the action of a camera that is moving around. Besides having to make the CGI stuff react according to the real enviroment, it also needs to move along with the unsteady PoV.

It wont rank amongst my top 10 movies, but I found this movie very entertaining, and there is still stuff I would like to have a closer look at. F.ex. Some of the parts where the recording is about what happened on the first recording of the tape, at least the last one seems to contain something that links to what happens during the movie, and give some evidence as to where it came from.

Saw this yesterday and I enjoyed it. I liked the handheld camera style and although not an orignial plot, i.e a monster invades, it had me captivated and on the edge of my seat. The way the monster was gradually revealed through the film was nicely done too.

I watched it for what it was, a CGI bonanza, which dumbed me down for a couple of hours. Nicely done and a bit different from the norm.

I read that people are getting motion sickness from the movie. In my opinon, I feel the director was trying to be post-modern and leave the monster up to the interpretation of the audience, but American audiences are LAZY and need every detail handed to them. So of course the film was immiediately panned.

I have a cinema pass which costs £12 a month and you can watch unlimited movies. If you don't like a film you can leave and just go into another one. You'll find I have an opinion on most of the movies that are released :D

:DThat is so funny. I thought the same thing. Maybe it was just a playful but clumsy monster who just wanted to play pikaboo! Rubbish film - was so looking forward to it too :(
