Scroogle is ad free and is opposed to the way other search engines track us and store that information indefinitely. Their alternative approach is one that many of us on here would be able to relate to. As they note:

"Not only does Google scrape much of the web, but they keep records of who searches for what. If information about your searching is accessible by cookie ID or by your IP address, it is subject to subpoena. This is a violation of your privacy. Someday Google's data retention practices will be regulated, because Google is too arrogant to do the right thing voluntarily. In the meantime, you should not be leaving your fingerprints in Google's databases"

The Scroogle Scraper site runs on a shoe-string and could do with some support for providing a worthy alternative to Google. Unfortunately but, inevitably, they face regular attacks from Google.

They do some interesting and informative cartoon attacks on Google, bill gates etc. The art work is basic but they get their points across well.

Scroogle searches are nothing like as 'glossy' as google's but I think they are a very useful alternative. It's interesting (albeit not unsurprising) that there are so few alternatives to the main search engines.

I can vouch for the Scroogle scraper as well. I've been using it and nothing else for 6 months now and it is fine. I have converted most of my friends and family to it as well and all seem quite happy with it, some friends are converting their own famlies etc' to it as well.
