She has good coordination. What was she trying to depict? I got the feeling it was a conversation and exchange/offering between her and a god or gods. (that's a little bit of a guess). I think her latter costume was depicting a bird, and that ball at the end might have been an egg.

Dear Father Ted,

This is a dance from the Bharata Natyam classical Indian dance tradition, which is the most popular form of classical dance in Southern India. On this site (http://in.geocities.com/medhahari/bharatanatyam/bharatanatyam.html) it explains that "Bharatanatyam ... is an artistic yoga (natya yoga), for revealing the spiritual through the corporeal. ... It is the most ancient of all the classical dance forms in India, which are based on Natya Shastra, the Bible of classical Indian dance."

There are many beautiful local traditions like this that are jeopardized by the global agenda of mass culture. I've been living in the U.S for a number of years now and have been amazed by the uniformization of thought, of choice, of architecture and everything. I don't know if you have read Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" or seen Trufault's film version of it, but the atmosphere and landscape that it depicts are for me so close to what is here!

The scary part is that this system is spreading around the world and destroying the uniquenesses of local and regional cultures. The United States of Europe is starting... One "small" example of this is the arrival there of Walmart - one if the ugliest stores on planet Earth, with its microchipped items:mad:. Now in Europe they too get dressed in Gap, have fun at Disneyworld with the kids, eat Big Mac with a Diet or corn syrup Coke, go to bed with reality show TV or read Harry Potter, and the next day go to work in a Hummer and crush the world.

Please excuse my taking so long to respond to your message, but life is so busy, and while I read the posts often, I don't always have the time to write them.

So "Vive la Diversité!"

Fahrenheit 451 ; I almost rented that another day, I'll get it next time. I had put a thread up about sci fi film recommendations.

I know what you mean by taste, as in artistic, physical, etc is getting fucked up. I play drums myself and into music as a hobby. Music is ridiculously dumbed down, repetitive, boring, but it's like that with all aspects of modern culture, music is an obvious example. I remember when I used to work, people WANTED to listen to commercial radio stations, where they repeat EVERYTHING 4 times EACH day, the same bunch of simple songs, equivalent to that of so called "children's music". And they like it! I always asked "doesn't this drive you crazy" and "aren't you sick of hearing the same shit" and their general attitude was always "...huh?... duh, er.. leave it"

It's like they're zombies like in movies, except you're in it and they're all around you. You can put your hart and soul into trying to explain something and they just agree and nod their head and totally disregard what you've just said, no matter how much sense it makes.
But there's gonna have to be a clash like the one the mayan calender describes and people are either gonna go along with the change or meet it head on.

you need to start listening to JJJ Ted, no commercials and never the same song twice. Oh and the music is actually listenable, no Maddonna or Britany there :D

Hi Father Ted,

I'm late again to respond! What kind of drums do you play? I love drums myself.

I agree that constantly exposing people to meaningless, repetitive forms of art creates a mass hypnotic state, a foundation for the new world order. I've noticed the zombies that you speak about too. They're all around. How can we get out of this film and start a new script? There's going to be a clash, I agree!

To return to age-old traditions, here's some Gwoka (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwo_ka)music (not as good as seeing it in person, especially with traditional dancing, but still good). Enjoy!
