Kurzweil grew up in Queens, New York. In his youth, he was an avid consumer of science fiction literature. By the age of twelve he had written his first computer program. Shortly after his discovery of programming, he appeared on the CBS television program I've Got a Secret, where he performed a piano piece that was composed by a computer he had built. In 1968, at the age of twenty, he sold a company he created that matched high schoolers with prospective colleges by answering a 200 question survey. He earned a SB in Computer Science and Literature in 1970 from MIT.
Kurzweil was the principal developer of the first omni-font optical character recognition system, the first print-to-speech reading machine for the blind, the first CCD flatbed scanner, the first text-to-speech synthesizer, the first electronic musical instrument capable of recreating the sound of a grand piano and other orchestral instruments (which he developed at the urging of Stevie Wonder, who was amazed by his OCR reading machine), and the first commercially marketed large-vocabulary speech recognition system. He has founded nine businesses in the fields of OCR, music synthesis, speech recognition, reading technology, virtual reality, financial investment, medical simulation, and cybernetic art.

"Kurzweil has also created his own twenty five year old female rock star alter ego, "Ramona", who he regularly performs as through virtual reality technology [2] to illustrate the as-yet untapped possibilities of computers to enhance and alter our interpersonal interactions."
This sounds to me like this guy has no respect for the human race. Really fucking disturbing to me. "Enhance an alter our interpersonal interactions?" What kind of sicko would even think of using a machine to do that. Sounds to me like this guy's the android.

Ok, even worse. This guy believes that merging biological and non-biological intelligence is a good thing, and also advocates using nanobots to maintain the human body to the level of immortality. I would have thought that a science fiction fan would be spooked by "we are borg."
:rolleyes: by using this machine { internet } you are doing what you just called 'sick'........
:) if people with 'brains' that still can work don't get involved, people can and will be made into 'borgs' { see Alan Watt www.cuttingthroughthematrix.com }
:eek: now that you're finished 'dumping', take a 'wet' paper towel and wipe your butt !
:rolleyes: meanwhile, Ray is a very brilliant man, hope he was allowed to be a Man at 13years of age, think about that one...

I am not using the internet to enhance human interaction. I have no delusion that reading typed words is anywhere near as "human" as face-to-face communication.
If he was a man at 13, he wouldn't have wasted his time writing computer programs, he would have been living a real life.
:) now that you're finished 'dumping', take a 'wet' paper towel and wipe your butt ! @ phoenixchilde :eek: :rolleyes: :cool:

You already said that. Do you have anything to contribute, or are you done?

Wow... Philip K. Dick was way ahead of his time. So I ask you all "Will Androids dream of Electric Sheep?"
Scary... Micro chips, cyber-organic, nano-tech, cloning... The Universe is changing. The world is changing so fast with its senses dulled and with the populace seemingly in a trance that it is scary. People are so numb they can't see or feel--it is like the Matrix. I don't know. A little self-awareness goes a long way. I don't have "it" ("it" as in everything) figured out but it is painfully obvious that we are being driven to change whether we like it, want it, or know it.
It can be quite a bleak outlook.

The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words. George Orwell made this clear in his novel 1984. But another way to control the minds of people is to control their perceptions. If you can get them to see the world as you do, they will think as you do. Comprehension follows perception. How do you get them to see the reality you see? After all, it is only one reality out of many. Images are a basic constituent: pictures. This is why the power of TV to influence young minds is so staggeringly vast. Words and pictures are synchronized. The possibility of total control of the viewer exists, especially the young viewer. TV viewing is a kind of sleep-learning. An EEG of a person watching TV shows that after about half an hour the brain decides that nothing is happening, and it goes into a hypnoidal twilight state, emitting alpha waves. This is because there is such little eye motion. In addition, much of the information is graphic and therefore passes into the right hemisphere of the brain, rather than being processed by the left, where the conscious personality is located. Recent experiments indicate that much of what we see on the TV screen is received on a subliminal basis. We only imagine that we consciously see what is there. The bulk of the messages elude our attention; literally, after a few hours of TV watching, we do not know what we have seen. Our memories are spurious, like our memories of dreams; the blank are filled in retrospectively. And falsified. We have participated unknowingly in the creation of a spurious reality, and then we have obligingly fed it to ourselves. We have colluded in our own doom

*Snip* The authentic human being is one of us who instinctively knows what he should not do, and, in addition, he will balk at doing it. He will refuse to do it, even if this brings down dread consequences to him and to those whom he loves. This, to me, is the ultimately heroic trait of ordinary people; they say no to the tyrant and they calmly take the consequences of this resistance. Their deeds may be small, and almost always unnoticed, unmarked by history. Their names are not remembered, nor did these authentic humans expect their names to be remembered. I see their authenticity in an odd way: not in their willingness to perform great heroic deeds but in their quiet refusals. In essence, they cannot be compelled to be what they are not.
