I was thinking, surely it must be important that the heart gets the right amount of nutrition and energy. Much of the energy is needed for pumping around the blood throughout the body, but also energy and nutrition is needed to keep the heart able to sustain and renew its cells.
Therefore a mini heart health program would be to focus conscious awareness into the heart area so that the correct amount of blood will flow in to the heart.
It should be very easy to monitor progress in such health program. If the blood flow to the heart is not in order, then there will be a feeling of numbness, tightness, irritation or angst in the heart area.
When the blood flow into the heart is in order there will be a feeling of nice flow, a loving kind of feeling, a warm tenderness to use some somewhat mushy expressions. When there is a sense of alive flowing energy into and from the heart, then the blood flow is in order.
The heart practice can be done in relation to specific thoughts. Think about your financial future and sense how it feels in the heart area. Think about a person you have a close personal relationship with and sense the heart. Think about great fears, such as aging, disease and death and sense the heart area. Think about joyful things and sense the heart area. The key to the practice is to put awareness, not only into the thoughts, but also to at the same time directly sense the heart to monitor how it operates.
The feelings in the heart create a feedback loop with the brain, and that can be used to bring the right kind of regulation into the cardiovascular system and with your conscious awareness you can modify that feedback loop to greatly improve your health.
