I have been to many experts/doctors about my injury (happened early january in a 20 foot fall down ice) Been on endless ostiopath appointments/ re visits to doctor and occupational health with the work.

Have tried using electric heat pads/hot cold showers. My body has been severely weakened and exercise is difficult. Have been advised to start attending gym. Anyone have some real advice?

Can I ask where the pain is comming from? One side of the body or both? Does the pain start in one area then move to another, for example you feel it first in your knee only move into the lower back?

What happened when you fell, was it an impact injury, or a tear/strain? - Have you been offered a scan of any kind?

mid/lower spine. It has also made my shoulders very stiff. The original impact was on the base of the spine. I was told slight nerve damage also.
Both sides of my back are very stiff and im getting sharp pains down the mid/lower spine. Have been told to not over do it and make steady progress with exercise. I tried cycling around 20 miles and it flared up even more.

The pain coming from the sides of my back is muscular. The pain is just constant not really moving. Thanks for the reply

Im sure it was an impact injury as i fell hard several times on the same area.
I have had an xray but not a mri scan. I bought one of those homedics massaging seats with heat function. Problem is every time i use it i feel a direct pain in the mid part of my spine. So i stopped using it.

the ostiopath i am seeing uses massage/trigger point therapy. Everytime i go he cracks my back. I have been trying these ideas for 6 months so i really do feel its time for a new approach. I see the company occupational health nurse on tuesday

I am wondering if your pelvis is out of alignment, something an x-ray may not pick up. I had my pelvis turned from a fall when I was younger and it bothered me for years, possibly 15 years, it pulled one of my lower vertabrae sideways and would cause paralyzing pain. Last years durring another season of tree planting it happened again. This time I went to a physiotherapist instead of the usual visit to the chyropractor. I walked out of there with a feeling I could remember ever having, I was normal, it felt quite strange actually as it must have been the first time in many years I had walked in proper alignment.

I'm not sure this is your problem but after that experience I always recommend a physiotherapist to anyone with back pain.

I will suggest this on tuesday and thursday when i see the occupational health nurse and the ostiopath. Might consider going private because the nhs physio wasnt good for me. Thanks again

This could be associated with your Psoas Muscles. The Psoas muscle (one either side) extends from the middle of your back down through your pelvis and sacrum and attaches to the trochanter (bone of your upper thigh). It is the longest muscle in the body, and can cause some problems a few you would not necessarily associate with it. Tilted pelvis (symptom) back pain (radiating) and knee pain can be amongst them, and is often the reason why some people say they have one leg shorter than the other. Sometimes this is not what it appears, as it is often a contracted psoas muscle that we then treat usually bringing it back to its full length. However, it can often respond to water. How much water? half your body weight in fl.ozs. e.g. if you weigh 200lbs half it = 100 so 100fl. oz. per day is a guide. This should be consumed over the whole day.
It always pays to check out what's on offer locally and your GP. If you do intensive exercise you may aggravate it, and dehydrate further. You need some professional support. If all else fails you may consider a visit here to us. No guarantees, but maybe an opportunity.

Thanks very much for your help. Have noticed when trying to make my joints more flexible i have had really bad pains in my ankles....I have decided to stop cycling as it gives me further shoulder/back issues. Infact leaves me sore all over....Maybe im overdoing it.

Currently trying 30 minutes a day of yoga and muscular stretches with wii fit plus. But god the ankle pain is severe. As for fluid intact i only drink fresh orange and mineral water (normally just over one litre a day)

after talking to the ostiopath today about my spine we have come to the conclusion that a ball part of my spine is damaged. he mentioned surgery.
Is this serious?? He did say since its a moving part i shouldnt be concerned.

I phoned my employer yesterday and the news for me is very grim.
I feel as is every chance i have had to live has been taken away.
I told them about my long term spine problem and it now seems
that they have no vacancy for me and im going to be sacked :(

So much bad news and i think my cycling days are over because every time
i go out in a run my spine/shoulders and back stiffen up and agrivate my
problems even more :\

Some one please help :\

I looked up the hse site and found that if the employer asks you to perform tasks that result in pain/injury then this request is deemed illegal by their laws. I also saw a section that said possibly i can claim disability in the work place.

I feel so sick/tired and worn out atm i need a escape route but i dont think i can find any. I cant keep living like this because of my history with stress related illness. I had a 4 month lay off last time and its not the first time its happened either. Im really struggling :(

I have ongoing back problems which I manage. I'm a keen cyclist and have to ensure that I stretch very well after all excercise otherwise I can stuff myself up.

After seeing useless people and not knowing what to do as I thought I was fucked for good, I eventually went to see a chiropractor who was also a kinesiologist. I'd seen a chiropractor previously who was useless (UK trained).

Here is a definition of kinesiology:

What is AK?

Applied kinesiology (AK) is a form of diagnosis using muscle testing as a primary feedback mechanism to examine how a person’s body is functioning. When properly applied, the outcome of an AK diagnosis will determine the best form of therapy for the patient. Since AK draws together the core elements of many complementary therapies, it provides an interdisciplinary approach to health care.

So basically after a few muscle tests, a practioner can establish exactly where you problems orginate from and clicked the appropriate parts. My ongoing pain was put right in 5 minutes after suffering for a year and I also got excercises to self manage, meaning no more visits or costs.

So I have two injuries which I manage. Without managing them, I get into pain and suffer lethargy and feeling sick. 'Energy blockages'. Not managing these, causes my arm to be weak, for instance. A neck stretch will restore full strength.

So, give such a practitioner a try as I cannot see who else would be better as finding out what is wrong. I would be hesitant to do anything else without using this course of action as a process of illimination.
