I got told that from a young fellow fresh out of dentist school.
I got about 6 of the little fellas in my trap, was thinking of getting them removed and replaced with gold fillings:eek: They last longer than the white ones but cost a bit, but the removal of the amalgam is the most expensive bit...
Don't suffer with depression, but they are bugging me just being in there...

you could be correct dondaz..who knows? maybe my dutch dentist was the bad one..
i've gone two times to the dentist in 15 years and both times told no cavities..the last time i had a cavity filled was when i was 23 years old and the other 3 in my youth (i'm 43 now).
i've been to the dentist 4 times in 26 years and my teeth look good and are working good..
i have no intention of going to the dentist ever again...no need..
i also don't go to doctors of any kind...never need to..

I have got 8 fillings 3 are the mercury ones the rest are the white ones.
The last 4 I had about a week ago, it cost me £200 for 4 white ones it wud have cost me £45 to get the mercury ones, now you carnt tell me that the amount of stuff it takes to fill 4 teeth costs over £150.
Also I asked how much it wud cost to have the mercury ones removed and replaced with white ones, £100 a tooth.
Has anyone looked in to the health affects of the white ones?
:D:D:D

Thousands of people are concerned that mercury dental fillings are to blame for their poor health, BBC East Health Correspondent Gill Higgins reports.
Thousands of people have called a helpline after hearing the story of a woman from Northampton who claimed mercury was making her ill.
Pam Clayton was suffering from fatigue and dizzy spells for years, but says cleansing her body of mercury changed her life.
For years, she couldn't go anywhere because she frequently collapsed, suffering from asthma-like symptoms and chronic fatigue.
But all this changed when she had her mercury fillings removed and started to clear the metal from her body.
Ms Clayton said: "l can do the ironing again, if people ask me out I can go, I can drive the car whenever I want to and I've got my life back again.
Since setting up a mercury helpline, Mrs Clayton has received thousands of calls and letters.
"I get a couple of hundred letters a day, my mum says I've woken the world up," she said.
"I never realised there were so many ill people out there."

Stay Away from "Holistic Dentistry"
Stephen Barrett, M.D.
William T. Jarvis, Ph.D.
A significant number of dentists have gone overboard in espousing pseudoscientific theories, particularly in the area of nutrition. "Holistic dentists" typically claim that disease can be prevented by maintaining "optimum" overall health or "wellness." In the dental office, this typically involves recommendations for expensive dietary supplements, a plastic bite appliance, unnecessary replacement of amalgam fillings, and removal of root-canal-treated teeth. John E. Dodes, D.D.S., an expert on dental quackery, has remarked that "wellness" is "something for which quacks can get paid when there is nothing wrong with the patient.
Historical Perspective
Much of "holistic dentistry" is rooted in the activities of Weston A. Price, D.D.S. (1870-1948), a dentist who maintained that sugar causes not only tooth decay but physical, mental, moral, and social decay as well. Price made a whirlwind tour of primitive areas, examined the natives superficially, and jumped to simplistic conclusions. While extolling their health, he ignored their short life expectancy and high rates of infant mortality, endemic diseases, and malnutrition. While praising their diets for not producing cavities, he ignored the fact that malnourished people don't usually get many cavities.
A few hundred dentists claim that the mercury in silver-amalgam fillings is toxic and causes a wide range of health problems, including multiple sclerosis, arthritis, headaches, Parkinson's disease, and emotional stress. They recommend that mercury fillings be replaced with either gold or plastic ones and that vitamin supplements be taken to prevent trouble during the process. However, scientific testing has shown that the amount of mercury absorbed from fillings is only a small fraction of the average daily intake from food and is insignificant. In 1992 an extensive review by the U.S. Public Health Service concluded that it was inappropriate to recommend restricting the use of dental amalgam. The American Dental Association Council on Ethics, Bylaws, and Judicial Affairs considers the unnecessary removal of silver-amalgam fillings "improper and unethical."
The most outspoken advocate of mercury-amalgam toxicity has been Hal A. Huggins, D.D.S., of Colorado Springs, Colorado, who describes himself as one of Page's students. Huggins promoted "balancing body chemistry" so vigorously that in 1975 the American Dental Association Council on Dental Research denounced the diet that he recommended. Another Price follower is George A. Meinig, D.D.S., whose book Root Canal Cover-up Exposed was published in 1994.

It all depends on your state of mind how much the fillings will hurt you. I beat my depression, but every now and then it comes back for a short second. When the fillings fall out i 7 more years (or so the dentists told me) Ill get more porcelain fillings like I did with my most recent cavities.

My recent cavities were caused by my braces. They are small pits on the side of my molars. One filling is a mercury on and the other one, which fell out, is replaced by a porcelain one.

For all of you who have had your mercury fillings removed what was the removal procedure like?
Were any precautions taken to prevent inhilation like an extractor fan next to the tooth or a rubber dam.

I had 4 deep ones removed. Roughly they are 100$ per tooth, depending on depth. Make 100% sure that the dentist removes 100% of the mercury. Sometimes they will leave some in so that the structure of the tooth isn't upset. REMOVE IT ALL. Also, make sure he uses a rubber dam over your mouth, and a second assistant is sucking the area that is being worked on with a vacuum thingy.
Again, make absolutely clear to the dentist that you want all of it removed. Tell him you're "allergic" to mercury. If you are going to a standard dentist, your best bet is to find one that no longer uses mercury. These dentists can be considered silent advocates against mercury. In other words, they don't use mercury because they know it's a poison, yet they don't actually tell you that, because the ADA's dick will be in their ass in no time.

Oh and, I don't care who you are. You shouldn't have mercury in your mouth. It is affecting you negatively even if you don't think so. Don't procrastinate, it is the best thing you can do for yourself.
