I'm curious if these actually work. I take them once in a while and don't notice a difference in my general feeling, and I'm wondering if its sort of a scam.
I understand what makes food so healthy is the natural complexity that powdered pills can't match, but I'd like to know peoples thoughts and experiences with them.

tbh ive always thought that
more nutrients in an apple than a box of pills :p
cost of apple = 30p?
cost of multivits = £5.00
problem solved :D
I think you are better with a balanced diet but if you need extra don't take too high a dose. People think the higher the milligrams the better but it's not true your body can only process so much and it just overtaxes the system.
I was taking ordinary multivitamins until recently and I found out something called magnesium stearate was in a lot of vitamins which actually causes probles such as blocking absorption of vitamins amongst other things.
I recently (yesterday:D) started taking a multivitamin and iron supplement called Floradix which doesn't have that in - so it's soething to be aware of. A google of magnesium stearate will tell you more.

You want a whole-food organic vitamin, mineral, and trace mineral supplement. Vita and Pure synergy are top notch; I fork out most my income just to keep it in stock. Also has organic herbs, spices, flowers, bioflavanoids, all of the color from the original food. The guy who makes it is an energy healer, with a few articles about energetic nutrition on their site. I can go on but I don't want to sound like I'm advertising or anything. :p

I take vitamin D3 at times when I'm not getting much sun for long periods.
I recently had a vitamin deficiency test done and I was only low in vitamin A (out of 28 vitamins tested), which mostly comes from liver, milk, cheese, margarine and yoghurt, I don't eat any of those so I got a vitamin A supplement.
Definitely best to eat a varied diet with plenty of vegetables. Delicious, yummy vegetables. :)

Take your vitamins, the really are good for you.
many of the major brand name multivitamins contain aspartame, you might want to do some reading before taking them

Vitamins and other supplements are bullshit and usually just waste products leftover from food processing. They've bottled it, slapped a label on it and people buy it. They're laughing all the way to the bank.
Eat raw eggs from pastured chickens that don't eat soy. Those are kind of like multivitamins. They are what some refer to as "whole foods." I usually eat about twenty a day.
Not much nutrition in an apple but sugar and vitamin C, which cancel each other out. You don't get much from veggies either because we don't have the enzymes to break down the cellulose in their cell wall.

Well the nutritional value of the fruit and veg you get in your average supermarket isn't anywhere near as good as the nutritional value you get from freshly picked organic fruit and veg. I've read that the nutritional value of most fruit and veg substantially declines after a week from the time it's picked, and supermarkets can hold onto produce for weeks or months.
Of course organic fresh fruit and vegetables are going to be better for you than multi vitamin tablets. But supposedly multi vitamins tablets are meant to fill in the nutritional gap that a lot of us have.

That's along the lines of what I was going to say. I have a book called Optimising Health Through Nutrition by Ra Un Nefer Amen. The guy says that because the soil is so depleted by all kinds of chemicals, to rely solely on 'a good diet' to get your nutrients isn't enough. So it's necessary to take multivits.
I began taking vitamin c supplements years ago, as I was always prone to getting heavy colds. I now take Holland & Barrett's 1000mg 'Super One' food supplements, one a day. they have various vitamins, B12 etc.

I think supplementation can be useful in cases of deficiency but is overused ,using isolated nutrient will cause further imbalances which may lead to the use of further supplementation and the cause of further inbalance.
I use humic which is natural (from the earth)occuring trace minerals , 94 of them as well as amino acids etc shilajit can also be used but I prefer humic
Always keep in mind that around 80% of mainstream supplements are owned by pharmaceutical companies.
Solgar was purchased by NBTY from Wyeth pharmaceutical giant

Thanks for that, yes you're quite right about the use of supplements, most of which are made by the pharmaceutical cartels. Health and nutrition is a science obviously....I basically try to eat the right things and exercise regularly but not excessively.

You eat 20 raw eggs a day? Uuumm, what? Eggs in moderation can be healthy. But 20 a day certainly is nowhere near healthy, and raw? Good god!
I make fruit/veg smoothies every day with my igh powered blender, so all the nutrients are easily absorbed. Here's a typical recipe I make:

there was a thread about multi's on this site (i think?). it linked to a page about how most multi's have an ingredient in them that lowers your immune system. I believe it because whenever i start taking them I get a cold within a week....never taking multi's again.

I've been taking one Multibionta (complete multivitamin/mineral with probiotic nutrients) and one extra high strength cod liver oil every day for about twelve years.
If I ingest my tablet before eating, all it does if make my urine expensive and glowing. :D
Multivitamin's must be taken with food!!
Do they really do any good? Especially when my body has become so accustomed to them? I don't give a shit, force of habit at this stage. ;)

Hilarious. I finally kicked the motivation into my mother to start buy regular fruit and veg (we were stuck in a food rut; white, brown and yellow foods) this month. Before the only natural food I would get was from my supplements. No stores around here sell fruit and if they do it is bananas. We do not have a car so It is hard to keep fresh stuff in the house with the full spectrum of colour. It is no wonder that society is becoming heavily left-brained. White, yellow, and brown foods. An over taxed solar plexus with no colour for the root chakra to ground it. No green for love. No purple for intuition.

You surely are going to quantify your objection to both the number of eggs and the state of cookedness, right?:P
That's a very sugary smoothie;) clearly you appreciate raw food though, for whatever reason - why not raw eggs? :)

I'm on the Primal Diet by Aajonus Vonderplanitz. What the mainstream has told you about diet is very wrong. Raw eggs, meat, and fish are very good for us. I used to be very sick and now I am in the best health of my life at 31.
Your blender is not making the veggies any more digestible, and all that fiber is not good for your intestines. I used to have Ulcerative Colitis, and I ate a very high fiber diet before that. Industries are built on the fiber lie.
Champion, Green Star, and Super Angel juicers break down the cellular wall.
By the way, that's really too much fruit/fructose. One serving a day at most.
If you are interested at all, you can read Aajonus's book. It cured me. I get as much bacteria in me as possible. My immune system just keeps getting better.
Also, I have those same Guinness glasses. I use them for my egg, butter, honey, and lemon shakes! (All raw of course.)

Thanks for the replies. I take Centrum, and after reading these I'll stop. At this point in my life I have trouble eating regular healthy meals so I thought I'd compensate, perhaps I'll go to a natural health foods store and see if they have stuff without aspartame and magnesium stearate lol.
