How many of us forum inhabitants are familiar with "The Secret", a DVD and book by Rhonda Byrnes (not to be confused with David Icke's The Biggest Secret)? I was introduced to this video last year and found it to be well-produced and well-presented instruction to some not-so-secret information that I had been exposed to for a long time.

I think most visitors here would see great value in it, as I do. It illustrates the power within us all to change our lives, with simple steps to achieve any goal you have in mind. The technique rests upon quantum physics as a scientific basis (see Gary Zukov's Dancing Wu-Li Masters) and implies everything that Michael Talbot's Holographic Universe reveals. It goes to the core of what we as humans are capable of, explaining how we often defeat ourselves. Truly ancient knowledge, depicted in the DVD as being from the Emerald Tablets (of Thoth).

This information has certainly been known to those that do not have humanity's best interests at heart, and those creatures apparently are quite organized and focused in their agenda. By applying this power, I believe we can make their efforts superfluous and obsolete.

You can bet the dark side absolutely use it against us. I wonder what would happen if tons of people used The Secret to change our world to one without them? Have a go at it and focus on a world free of reptilians.:D

I agree w/ most of the posters here the secret is truly an amazing film, to think that reality is so close for people to see yet they refuse to seek what they want and need and turn their backs on the dreams they might as well conspire for themselves. I would also recommend reading the book the alchemist which ties in w/ the movie as well.............:)

decent DVD although I think one must also note that ones mental condition and how one is aliened to their true self is very much apart of it..... we are not on earth to own ferrari's and to have lots of money to splash out on... that just may come through manifestations that reflect on our inner state.

the Secret is very true, but it is also to do with the inner world.... I don't think the universe recognises money or Cars.... it recognises how we feel...

Secrets and lies alleged in Secret court case

Mark Russell
July 13, 2008

MELBOURNE filmmaker Rhonda Byrne's secret to gaining extreme wealth was to defraud her co-author of the best-selling DVD and self-help book The Secret, a court has been told.
Byrne is alleged to have used "false promises" to swindle at least $150 million from another Melbourne filmmaker, Drew Heriot, over The Secret, which details a lifestyle philosophy promising unlimited love and happiness to those who follow its principle: the universe will make your dreams come true if you truly believe in them.
The pair's bitter legal battle went before the Federal Court in Melbourne on Friday.
Heriot claims he is entitled to half the estimated $US300 million ($A312 million) revenue The Secret made in the US because he was the co-author of the screenplay and the book.
Byrne denies Heriot's claims, saying he was only ever a paid employee who directed the film while she created, prepared and wrote the book.
Her company, TS Productions, is seeking an injunction from the Federal Court in Melbourne to stop Heriot proceeding with a lawsuit in the US. She wants the case heard in Australia, arguing that The Secret was conceived, produced, most of it filmed, edited, and finished by an Australian production company using Australian crews and equipment. Of the 120 people who worked as crew members on The Secret, only 12 were Americans and 80% of cast members were Australians.
However, Heriot's lawyers have applied to have the case in Melbourne delayed until the US case is finalised. They claim Heriot stands to make at least $150 million in damages if the case is heard in the US because that is where most of the revenue from The Secret was generated. They said Byrne wanted the case heard in Australia because she was much wealthier than Heriot and knew if he pursued the case in Australia it would come at "enormous expense" to him as he now lived in the US.
Barrister Will Houghton, QC, for Heriot, told Justice Ross Sundberg during Friday's hearing in Melbourne that the case should be heard in the US because The Secret was first released there and both Heriot and Byrne lived in California. Justice Sundberg reserved his decision.
In documents filed in the US District Court in Illinois, Heriot claims he was defrauded by Byrne, who had misappropriated his intellectual property "using false promises, side deals, self-transfers of ownership and a web of domestic and foreign 'shell' companies".
Byrne denies this, saying she was the one who thought up The Secret in 2004, envisioning it as a documentary series for Australian television.
When the Nine Network decided not to air what had become a two-hour special, it was released in the US in March 2006 for download from the internet on a pay-per-view basis before going to DVD and becoming the highest-selling DVD in America.

.....Not even "Saturday Night Live," taking a poke at "The Secret's" finger-pointing fallacies, could make it so. One recent weekend, the show featured a skit about a man in Darfur being interviewed by Winfrey and Byrne. They scolded him when he lamented that his people were starving, saying it was all the result of his lousy attitude. That was played for laughs, but later that week I watched Bob Proctor, author of "You Were Born Rich" and one of the "gurus" Byrne quotes most often, being asked on "Nightline" whether the starving children of Darfur had "manifested" -- that is, visualized -- their own misery. In utter seriousness, he replied, "I think the country probably has."
The book is not nearly so equivocal. "Imperfect thoughts are the cause of humanity's ills," Byrne asserts, in a stunning sentence that had me pondering how to perfect my thoughts, pronto.
Poverty? "The only reason any person does not have enough money is because they are blocking money from coming to them with their thoughts."
Illness? "You cannot 'catch' anything unless you think you can. . . . You are also inviting illness if you are listening to people talking about their illness." So . . . got any sick friends who need a shoulder to cry on? Tell 'em to bug off! As for Elizabeth Edwards -- how selfish is she? By making people think about her cancer, she's basically giving them the disease.
What at first glance looks like the world according to Disney -- wish on a star, and it will all come true -- turns out to be a pretty ugly little secret indeed.
Winfrey, perhaps recalling how badly burned she was last year by James Frey's pseudo-memoir, "A Million Little Pieces," may have started to cotton on to that reality. A couple of weeks ago, she "clarified" her views on the "law of attraction." Although she didn't apologize for endorsing "The Secret," she said the law of attraction "is not the answer to everything. It is not the answer to atrocities or every tragedy. It is just one law. Not the only law. And certainly, certainly, certainly not a get-rich-quick scheme."
As I squeezed an endless stream of new self-help books onto shelf after shelf at the bookstore and watched the sales they generated, I realized just how many publishers and self-appointed gurus are making their fortunes serving up nothing more than snake oil to a ravenous public. Yet this latest little flimflam of a book seems to represent a new low for the industry. It takes the promise that "you can be anything you want if you just read this book" to its illogical conclusion: Simply believe and it will happen.
But the truth -- as M. Scott Peck, one of the earliest and best self-help authors, once wrote -- is that life is difficult. There are no easy answers. I'm hoping that "The Secret" will wake people up to the fact that anyone who claims otherwise is just ripping them off.
Wishful thinking? Maybe not, if I really believe hard enough.

its not all down to that, you don't make that much money from playing the helpless in this way.... most of the people who liked the DVD are probably the more possative uplifting people anyway... not the pessimists..

the fact it sold so well and word of mouth spread so much was due to them being very smart in that they know full well that this stuff is coming to light and it is very much of interest because of how people think today.... so these people simply cashed in on it with a nice glossy video...

My brief review :-

I think for anyone who has never looked into their spiritual side before, this movie is a start but ONLY a start. I personally didnt like the movie much cos it kept mentioning wanting material things such as money, expensive cars and massive houses with tennis courts etc. Not very spiritual.

At one point in the film, a man said that a lot of spiritual people are "broke and sick(unhealthy)", like as if "broke" and "sick" go together somehow  He was REALLY saying that alot of people who are spiritual have no money (which is true in alot of cases), but he slipped in the word "sick" for no apparent reason

The movie didnt really seem to want to go into the spiritual side of things (it did do but it was really quite brief). But if it plants a seed that gets people to awaken then that can only be good.

Because of the obssession with materialism, it did leave we feeling very slightly deppressed at times. I should point out I was only deppressed with the content OF THE MOVIE and not with the theory of the Law of Attraction itself.

One thing that I would have liked the film to explain for me is how the kids who have died in Iraq, Gaza etc how have they attracted this into their lives ?

On a positive note, they mentioned that we should concentrate on "peace" marches and NOT "anti-war" marches. This is a good idea cos if we concentrate on "Peace" then maybe it will attract MORE people (hopefully millions of them) who will feel the vibes and want to join in.

Yep. Find it in many self help books with a few lines that gets the point across. For some reason they need to spend a lot more time "teaching" you this and a lot more money made.

I agree. While I was watching the video, I could not ignore the fact that they were focusing on manifesting material things like houses or jewelry. This was one of the reasons why Esther Hicks did not want to be part of the final version of the DVD.

I totally believe in our own inner worlds and if that is out of sync, then it reflects in our outer world.

Thanks for posting this.

Steevo also thanks for your posts.

Another thing that I didnt like about The Secret is that they never mentioned that the tiny minority of individuals who get rich are actually networks of secret societies who ensure that the only people who make big bucks in business are the members of those societies. Some may slip through the net occasionally although this is extremely rare. The makers of the film said that those people get rich because of the law of attraction. Like someone already said, the universe doesnt recognise money as part of the equation when it comes to the law of attraction.

Steevo,

I had trouble believing the guy who told his small child that earlier he had cut out a picture of a house which turned out to be the house he ended up buying. The guy too was mega rich.

I honestly feel that one motive for making this film was to throw the viewers off by getting them to concentrate on attaining materials things.

My dad (who is relatively new to all this) has been raving to me about the book version recently, funny that "the law of attraction" is a concept dealt with and that we have all come into contact with before on this path, and here they just use it to further brainwash people into aspiring to be the elite and have what the elite have...the material will always fill those holes you have...

groan...

i may watch it if i get in the mood to be pissed off :)

A very good review Stevo - completely agree.

I would say The Secret is a beginners guide to the law of attraction. It focuses on the material aspect too much, precisely because the makers knew that would appeal to more people and sell better. I prefer the Esther/ Jerry Hicks approach to the law of attraction, which, whilst also having an emphasis on material gain, is more balanced with the spiritual aspects and less simplistic. The Secret makes it all seem so simple, but it isn't. It requires the individual to make big changes in the way they think and feel about every aspect of their lives, which is easier said than done.

Bullshit. People need to take friggin responsibility for themselves. It's ten fucking bucks a book, that is not going to bankrupt anyone, it's not the friggin Madoff case here. Playing on emtions and insecurities yes, and they made $300m but so what? That is them, thet made that money, as i said elsewhere, people need to use their intelligence and intuition to desicde what is true or not, and not be so weak as to be swayed by a goddamn book.

The book has a few very interesting things in it, and some very turthful things. Nothing new, nothing ground-breaking, has been said before over and over again. People write a book, dress it up, whatever. If the readers are so irresponsible that they use the information wrongly, or can't decide what is true or not, then they will learn eventually not to be so stuipid. We must stop blaming everything on otheres. They made alot of money, didn't kill anyone, good for fucking them.

I couldn't agree more, reading it felt like i was reading an idiots guide. what is in the secret is nothing new i believe its just one of those books out there that make people follow a faulse movement, actions speak louder than words.
I dont think a homeless person would find any use in the book.
But its funny because i know so many people who have claimed it has changed their lives.
The secret was a idiots guide to ancient teachings like the compressed and bastardized for a western audience. You can only have the secret if you are willing to pay $14.00 for it and all it is, is a bunch of saying rich people have coined their own.

but to each their own,

That's basically most of what I got out of it. Esther Hicks commented on this and asked to be cut from the final version of the DVD.
