Great thread, love the sound of 'Stalking the Wild Pendulum - on the Mechanics of Consciousness - Itzhak Bentov', will be checking this one out!

My top 5: or 6...
Brian Jenner - There are no diseases, only dis-eased conditions (self-healing)
http://www.qvkhealing.com
The truth behind the complete torro dung philosphy of our medical system

Neale Donald Walsche - Conversations with God (awesome, words fail...)

Alexander Niles - Focus on Facts (comprehensive nwo/illuminati research, UK author, the best book on the subject I've read, includes what companies are owned by whom etc...)

Patricia Cori - A Cosmos of Soul (trilogy)
http://www.sirianrevelations.net

Olaf Andersson - Living Water (On Victor Shauberger - the forefather of Emoto's work) Great for all environmentalists, agriculturists, & anyone interested in nature. Words don't do this man's research justice... what he accomplished before he was shut down (like Wilhelm Reich)

Lynne McTaggart - What Doctors Don't Tell You (as if we don't know already, lots on jabs, antibiotics, how doctors get bonuses on the percentage of patients who get vaccinated etc...)

Disapperance of the Universe and Your Immortal Reality, by Gary Renard.

many people seem to have issues with the course in miracles (i have some issues with the people associated with the course myself  ). if you google it, you'll find lots of concerns and misperceptions about it. it has even attracted cult-meisters who manipulate the text for their own benefit.

but here's an interesting correlation. i know personally of only three writers who have stated the universe was NOT created by the Infinite:

* the course in miracles,
* lynne grabhorn (dear god what is happening to us?/planet two),
* and... david icke.

the course's definition of the ego is strikingly similar to david's "god program".

Conversations with Ramana Maharshi my book if stranded on a desert island! :)

Healing Light of the Universal Tao, by Mantak Chia

Cutting through Spiritual Materialism, by Chogyam Trungpa.

power vs. force, Eye of the I by David M. Hawkins

Hawkins got somewhat off track with Truth vs. Falsehood, and associates with some dicey characters, but i believe his intention is sincere.

The Enneagram of Liberation by Eli Jaxon-Bear

The Tao te Ching What helped me understand this better was viewing it as a map of the inner life. So, for example, "the ten thousand things" could be viewed as the stream of 50,000 thoughts a day the normal person has.

just a few things i refer back to quite frequently.

great lists! keep 'em coming! :)

mara,

thanks for starting this thread. all the above would make great additions to any reading list.

for those of you wondering how we're going to make it through "the troubles", read Esther Hicks book ASAP! Hicks was one of the first authors to associate herself with "The Secret" (the one oprah's been hawking on her show), but she quickly became disillusioned with the group who did the video and disassociated herself with it. that says something to me. imo, The Secret is half-assed and full of half-truths.

just sharin' the Love! :)

Ahh, so people here do read after all lol - I thought this thread was dead.

Tru3 - Yeah I agree with that - the Secret barely scratches the surface, but still it is a good starting point and just whets the appetite nicely for doing your own research.

I'm definitely interested in the Conversations with Ramana Maharshi book - keeping my eyes peeled for a second hand copy. :)

Unicorn - I can't believe I missed the Neale Donald Walsch books from my list! Shame on me!

there was a lot of synchronicity for me with Conversations; i had been hearing about it about 2 years ago, and that same month i was in san diego, where the book is published. went into a bookstore and -ba da bing!- there it was.

same kind of thing happened with the biggest secret. i was in hawaii where i had seen one of david's videos. when i got back to the mainland a few days later, i was in borders (of all places  ) in the business marketing section and - ba da bing!- there was the biggest secret. in the business marketing section! i didn't even hesitate....

'Dune' by Frank Herbaert helped to keep my mind open as a child going through the education program. In fact, all six books are brilliant. Here's the 'Litany against Fear' of the Bene Gesserit:
"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the litle-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to past over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

'Being Happy' by Andrew Matthews is a book that I recommend for everyone to read. Topics covered include, patterns, self-image, self-image and the subconcious, pain live now, forgiveness, happiness, humour, imagination, the law of attraction, the power of words, you give life its value, to name a few.

'The Celestine Prophecy' by James Redfield for its information on control dramas is enough for me to recommend it.

'Conversation with God' series by Neale Donald Walsch. I met Neale in Adyar bookstore in Sydney, while I observed Neale to be other than an example of the understandings within the books, I would recommend them for the experience. I cried, I laughed, I cried and laughed at the same time, and I understood who I am.

I love 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' by Richard Bach. I once read it as a sales meeting and that day everybodies sales increased . Great book for the relisation of self-potential. Only takes about 30min to 45min to read.

'The Secret in the Bible' by Tony Bushby. Sequel to 'The Bible Fraud', it offers detailed research that resonates with me. Love it.

'The Cosmic Serpent' by anthropologist Jeremy Narby rocked the establishment when it was released. Enough said.

Masaru Emoto's 'The Hidden Messages in Water' and 'The Power of Water', although not the only research done about this, are a great source of knowledge.

With LOVE.

Life and Teaching of the Masters of the Far East - Baird T Splalding

A series of six books written almost 100 years ago of the authors journeys into Tibet, Persia, India and China and of their mystical encounters.

The Conversations with God books by Neile Donald Walsch

A great start for someone new on this Journey but also enjoyable for everyone. In book 2, I think, he says what a wonderful person Bush senior is. Someone once said that made him one of 'them.' I just thought it was naive of him. By all accounts he has now changed his view on that little matter.

Celestone Prophecy, Tenth Insight and The Secret of Shambhala - James Redfield.

As someone else said these are great for understanding how dramas are played out and how our energy is taken from us.

Ask and it is Given - Hicks/ Abraham

Explains very simply how vibration must match to manifest.

and my all time favourite....

The Pleiadian Agenda - Barbara Hand Clow

OK! This is channelled stuff and I am usually sceptical about channelling but this is awesome.
Some of the chapters are:
The lizards and the Roman Church
The Photon Band
Alcyone Library and Tzolk'in - Keepers of Time

G'day Mara,

Daughter of the Empire.
Servant of the Empire.
Mistress of the Empire.

Three brilliant books. A spinoff series by Raymond Feist and Janny Wurts.

The main character being Mara of the Acoma.

Hey Mara, do you know where Pug, Thomas and Macros are ???

If you like Raymond Feist, give David and Leigh Eddings a read, namely 'The Belgariad' and 'The Mallorean'.

With LOVE.

Thank you Mara for setting up this thread.

Another one I was moved by is; The Profet by Kahil Gibran

Cheers

Yes! It’s a great book that really rings true.

"People of Orphalese, you can muffle the drum, and you can loosen the strings of the lyre, but who shall command the skylark not to sing?”

-Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet (pp. 26 - 27)

I also recommend The Madman and The Garden of the Prophet by the same author.

Here are my other recommendations:

The Toltec Teachings volumes 1 - 4 by Théun Mares

"No warrior runs away from his challenges, but, conversely, a warrior also chooses his battles. It is senseless to fight a battle in which there are no desired stakes.

-Volume Two: Cry of the Eagle, p. 120

The Four Agreements and The Mastery of Love by Don Miguel Ruiz

“We must forgive those we feel have wronged us, not because they deserve to be forgiven, but because we love ourselves so much we don’t want to keep paying for the injustice. Forgiveness is the only way to heal. We can choose to forgive because we feel compassion for ourselves.”

-The Four Agreements (p. 114)

Ramtha – The White Book by J. Z. Knight

“Life, this grand stage, is your kingdom. It is the platform upon which you create your illusions. This wondrous stage affords you the opportunity to dream into existence any reality you desire. For the God that you are has the unlimited freedom to dream any thought, feel any emotion, and manifest the dream into a reality. And anywhere in between you can change your mind.”

-Ramtha, The White Book, p. 135

The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Delois Wattles

“As the formless Stuff thinks of a form, it takes that form; as it thinks of a motion, it makes that motion. That is the way all things were created.”

-The science of getting rich, chapter 4.

The Age of Manipulation by Wilson Bryan Key

“Search […] for something that has been around for a long time, is taken for granted, so obvious as to have remained unseen, undiscovered, repressed, or hidden from public view intentionally or otherwise. Every society has such
hidden, tacitly forbidden intellectual treasures that await discovery and illumination. Find out what is not discussed, not studied, not critically examined. Ignore what lies on the surface, what everyone else perceives, argues over, and finds threatening. Societies conceal their exposed nerve endings, which, when examined, become fearsome and painful. But, as mentioned earlier, ‘No pain, no gain!’”

-The age of manipulation (p. 58)

+ everything by Carlos Castaneda!

“The things that people do cannot under any conditions be more important than the world. And thus a warrior treats the world as an endless mystery and what people do as an endless folly.”

-C. Castaneda

Here's something a bit lighter to read, a bit of fantasy.

David and Leigh EDDINGS
- The Belgariad series (5 books).
- The Mallorean series (5 books).
- The Elenium series (3 books).
- The Tamuli series (3 books).
Easy to read and brilliantly written. In fact I've re-read the first two series numerous times.

J. R. R. TOLKIEN
- The Hobbit.
- Lord of the Rings.
Shouldn't have to say anything here............!!!!!

Raymond E. FEIST
- The Riftwar saga.
- Daughter of the Empire/Servant of the Empire/Mistress of the Empire.
- The Serpentwar saga.
- Conclave of the Shadows.
All these books, plus others, based on the same world(s)/multiverse. Really knows how to tell a great story.

Robert JORDAN
- The Wheel of Time series.
He also wrote some of the Conan chronicles. There are thirteen books in the Wheel of Time series (a couple left to write) and they are great.

Anne McCAFFREY
-The Dragonriders of Pern.
Anything in the series is worth reading, especially Dragonsong and Dragonsinger: Harper of Pern.

David ZINDELL
- The Ea Cycle.
Loved reading these books.

I've probably missed a few but I'll add them when I think of them.

With LOVE.

Thank you for your recommendation! I am half way through it right now. It's an eye-opener! I had no idea that the NSA was so huge, and that mind control was so well developed, already back in the '60s. Frightening.

"Complete Works of William Blake" by Geoffrey Keynes
The greatest poet-mystic to have ever lived. Jerusalem, The Marriage of Heaven & Hell, Milton, The Pickering Manuscripts, even his own letters carried the spark of divinity he realised was in everyone as One.

"Coleridge" by Richard Holmes
Again, a Romantic poet deeply interested in metaphysics & mysticism. This biography is masterfully written - the author also did a highly recommended Shelley biog.

"Cosmic Consciousness" by Dr. Richard Maurice Bucke
An expose of the human mind's ability to commune with the infinite and the love at the heart of the Cosmic drama - depicts people who have been "illuminated", spiritually evolved, who all received profound increases in intelligence, creativity and happiness and rejected death and evil, such as Jesus, Buddha, Blake, Boehme, Pascal, Balzac, Swedenborg, Spinoza, Whitman, Carpenter, and many non-famous people the doctor became acquainted with through his research on the book, after his own illumination.

"The Spirit of Man" by Robert Bridges
Anthology of poetry and philosophy, food for an aching spirit.

Yes,Carlos Castaneda's last book-'The Active Side of Infinity' is the most comprehensive
one. Our awareness is being replaced by a foreign installation unless you awaken and
sheild yourself from it. A very good book concerning old technology that was suppressed
is 'Lost Science-Gerry Vassillatos'. It is rather complex, but touches on inventions for
humanity that would make all our lives less stressful if the monopolies/cartels didn't
silence them.

But I never quite gathered why Kingston-on-Thames was such a special place. I actually went there because of what the book said. It's a pleasant little enclave inside the borders of London, with a shopping centre and a nice park and walking area by the river (I went there on a fine. sunny day), but I failed to see anything esoteric!

A Wrinkle In Time by Madeline L'Engle has been a favorite of mine since 2nd grade. I have re read it countless times, and I have little doubt that knowing this book backwards and forwards has helped contibute to my long standing state of awareness.
In the interest of saving myself time and effort (I am literally ready to drop off to dreamland within the next few moments) I'm going to paste the summary of the novel here from "SparkNotes" to see if it peaks your interest...
Note, it is filled with spoilers, however, it will not deter from your enjoyment of the novel itself. Also, the film version of the novel, which many fans find a disappointment, is actually quite good and close to the original material for the time frame allowed. It's worth a look.

Summary
A Wrinkle in Time is the story of Meg Murry, a high-school-aged girl who is transported on an adventure through time and space with her younger brother Charles Wallace and her friend Calvin O'Keefe to rescue her father, a gifted scientist, from the evil forces that hold him prisoner on another planet. At the beginning of the book, Meg is a homely, awkward, but loving girl, troubled by personal insecurities and her concern for her father, who has been missing for over a year. The plot begins with the arrival of Mrs. Whatsit at the Murry house on a dark and stormy evening. Although she looks like an eccentric tramp, she is actually a celestial creature with the ability to read Meg's thoughts. She startles Meg's mother by reassuring her of the existence of a tesseract--a sort of "wrinkle" in space and time. It is through this wrinkle that Meg and her companions will travel through the fifth dimension in search of Mr. Murry.
On the afternoon following Mrs. Whatsit's visit, Meg and Charles Wallace walk over to Mrs. Whatsit's cabin. On the way, they meet Calvin O'Keefe, a popular boy in Meg's school whom Charles considers a kindred spirit. The three children learn from Mrs. Whatsit and her friends Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which that the universe is threatened by a great evil called the Dark Thing and taking the form of a giant cloud, engulfing the stars around it. Several planets have already succumbed to this evil force, including Camazotz, the planet on which Mr. Murry is imprisoned.
The three Mrs. W's transport the children to Camazotz and instruct them to remain always in each other's company while on their quest for Mr. Murry. On Camazotz, all objects and places appear exactly alike because the whole planet must conform to the terrifying rhythmic pulsation of IT, a giant disembodied brain. Charles Wallace tries to fight IT with his exceptional intelligence but is overpowered by the evil and becomes a robot-like creature mouthing the words with which IT infuses him. Under the control of IT, Charles leads Meg and Calvin to Mr. Murry and together they confront IT. However, they, too, are unable to withstand IT's power; they escape only at the last minute, when Mr. Murry appears and seizes Meg and Calvin, "tessering" away with them (traveling via another tesseract) to a gray planet called Ixchel inhabited by tall, furry beasts who care for the travelers. Charles Wallace remains possessed by IT, a prisoner of Camazotz.
On Planet Ixchel the three Mrs. W's appear once again, and Meg realizes that she must travel alone back to Camazotz to rescue her brother. Mrs. Which tells her that she has one thing that IT does not have, and this will be her weapon against the evil. However, Meg must discover this weapon for herself. When standing in the presence of IT, Meg realizes what this is: her ability to love. Thus, by concentrating on her love for Charles Wallace, she is able to restore him to his true identity. Meg releases Charles from IT's clutches and tessers with him through time and space, landing in her twin brothers' vegetable garden on Earth, where her father and Calvin stand waiting. The family joyously reunites, and the Mrs. W's visit the happy scene en route to further travels.

His angle is basically that belief in God is primitive and disabling. The core of his case is that beleif in God is illogical, but never does he consider that any other way of seeing the world is anyt good except logic!

I just read this book for the first time last year. I really enjoyed it too:D it is really good. L'engle follows in the footsteps of The Inklings (Lewis, Tolkien, Williams, et al.) These authors mostly wrote fantasy/sci-fi embedded with Christian myth. In this case 'myth' is considered the spiritual Truths found in Christianity.

Anyway, if you are interested, I also read a really great book about literary theory by Northrop Frye called 'Words with Power'. In it he discusses the archetypes of literature. His theory and criticism begins with the myths in the bible up to modern day literature. Don't be put off by 'bible' and 'christianity'. I'm don't consider myself religious or a Christian, but the book is great for gaining an understanding of literature and its archetypes and how they affect us. There is something in these myths (Truths) that obviously resonate with us humans. Look at the popularity of the Tolkien trilogy and the Narnia books. Also his theory can be easily applied to 'A Wrinkle in Time' and would give you greater insight into the novel.

Anyway...I'm slightly embarrassed to tell you all I am currently reading "Wicked". Just wanted some entertainment for a few days:o
However I am looking for something serious and deep :D to take on vacation with me next week, so thanks for this thread:)
