PS... Ask away if you need something answered about anything ya want to know from this book.

I just learned that ALL acorns are edible, some less sweet than others, but all can be digested healthily..

Oui Joss. Is'int it a good one to be on?

I need to start thinking about the future. Download as much useful knowledge as I can into my mind before it's too late.. and this knowledge isnt available when I will need it most.

I'm trying to help you all out with the suggestion of purchasing this book.
It's compact enough to carry many places. And DURABLE to all hell.

It's an investmen I reccomend. I'm not gunna push it any further than that.

This guy is so down to earth, and so detailed and specific about everything, just for the purpose of having you not mess anything up... it's so specific, yet flexible to situation analysis.

It's very hard to get the motivation and planning together to really practice.

I've found the best way to break into survival is to learn to survive in your own town with the plants, fruit, nuts and roots (all I need is the fruit), when you look there is actually a huge variety of food available for free. Once you do this then half the struggle has completely gone and you don't land yourself out in the middle of the woods and forced to learn everything straight away.

I have several survival books. Even though most are pretty good I recommend Tom Brown because he was raised by an apache indian and spent decades in the pine barrens. He teaches pure survival (no equipment whatsoever) and also all other kinds of Indian skills (i.e warfare).

His books go into things in such detail, for instance he tells you how you can see whether the air is high or low pressure due to the nature of the campfire and things like that...Very good. He also has a book which combines survival in the urban setting, very useful.

He doesn't just teach one type of campfire but loads for different occasions, all year around, all different types of shelters and how to hide them from view. He also goes into tracking humans and animals and shows how to observe animals up close. This guy is not just the average outdoor enthusiast or marine turned survival guru.

Yeah chris,

this guy gets into the physics and the simple science behind things for us to better understand how to work things out and very good shelters and just really important things that the average jack doesnt know.

Yes, I've been downloading a lot of information about Survival ... and lots of interesting McGuyver shit too :)

Thanks a lot for the book suggestion. I'll have to get it when I get the money.

Thanks for the suggestion, Hereby. This could be essential information. We think we're depandant on the finacncial, retail and govt system, but that's bollocks! We've been living under their yoke for a mere 5000 years. We lived free and self-sufficient in nature for 50 times that length of time before history began.

I might need to use this book if it gets to the point that we need biometric ID to live in conventional society.

!!! Definately, afterall, you couldn't buy or sell without the Mark :rolleyes:

That's one of the main reasons I'm looking into all this 'survival' stuff,
as not only do I think I may need to live off/with Nature in the future for various possible reasons,
but I feel that's the way it should be anyways, and was for a very very long time as you said.

The pocket-size guide covers everything from the essential survival kit and pouch to disaster strategies for those who find themselves facing natural disasters such as hurricanes, avalanches, floods, tornadoes, active volcanoes, floods, lightening and earthquakes. And just in case nature proves too much for such precautions, there is an extremely comprehensive section on health and first aid.

Oh, boy..

If you have to "ask" how..

You probably won't.

Cause we all know how much emphasis they put into our schools teaching us key survival skills.

I took orienteering (compassing) in High School and fire building.
I'm also a ex-marine.

Most people aren't so lucky as to have the great training and experience as myself.

And if any book can help them out.
It's the one on the front page.

So much to do before the shit goes down, gotta write my woodland friends tea party invites.

Can't have any old woodland folk popping up...Otherwise you get overrun by the weasels. They ain't no fun at all.

Our ego and persona, are just computer progams, comparitvely to the all knowing being, trying to operate itself through this computer body as a channel to bring about life and thinking into the body.

Just a little fact if you want to eat acorns, you need to place them in a flowing river (in a net or other porous material and shelled) for a few days to remove the tanins, then heat the mush and consume. It ia actually a very highly prized food as it is full of protein etc :)

That book is one I certainly will be getting. I have read all of David Ickes books over the years and have really enjoyed them. I sold them and many many other books a while ago as I had finished and obtained all the information I needed and also because I needed to raise some money. I look forward to reading Davids new book.

Re. Squirrels, they have a habit of picking nearly all the acorns and throwing them about. So get a pet squirrel and you won't have to climb trees. (and chestnuts... they don't even eat those do they???)

Couple of other interesting points:

Chilli powder... puts the dogs right off.

Thermal Imaging... those silver foil emergency blankets. Cut one up and wear on the inside of your outer clothing. Or sit in a river.

Don't know if either work but sounds about right.

I suspect ALL electronic kit will be trackable. So take plenty and throw it all over the place.

Jellied sweets can take a fingerprint impression. And you may need an eye gouge. And a drill for the implants.

I've looked into the book, seems to be very good though there are a few negative reviews saying that it's outdated and his writing style is hard to understand. Regardless, I've taken your word for it OP and ordered it. It was a very reasonable price.. I couldn't help myself!

Everyone seemed to have the general consensus that a more recent book such as "Edible Wild Plants" would pair nicely with the "How to Stay Alive in the Woods" book. Having a guide with colored images of the plants instead of grayscale sketches would be handy indeed ;).
