'The resilience of coins and notes as a favoured way of paying will be put to the test again, following the launch today of contactless payment cards in the capital. Shoppers in London will be able to buy small-ticket items on a credit or debit card without having to hand any plastic over or enter a Pin at the point of sale, as the system is rolled out over the coming weeks.'
