'This is a tale that
should be compulsory reading for anyone even contemplating a ‘career'
in the military anywhere in the world and anyone who believes for a
nano-second that by doing so they are serving their country and
bringing ‘peace' to the planet.
We have John Wayne to thank to a large extent for selling this
ludicrous view of military life to so many Americans. Wayne played the
role of recruiter-in-chief for the cannon-fodder killed and maimed in
war after war since he donned his wardrobe beret, had his face dabbed
with make up, and bravely stood unbowed, chin up, chest out, as the
fake bullets echoed through the movie set. If real bullets had been
involved in a real war ‘Big John' could no doubt have cancelled the
colon cleanse.
Wayne was an enthusiastic member of the Order of DeMolay, the
Freemasonic youth organisation that also produced Bill Clinton, and
became an active Freemason. While millions were dying in a Second World
War that he would later make a fortune from inaccurately portraying,
Wayne was creating the Motion Picture Alliance for the Preservation of
American Ideals in 1943. The "Duke" majored in irony.'
