Battle brewing at B’nai Brith Canada
'Henry Gimpel, the onetime regional chair, said a core group of 15 to 20 people, four of them past presidents of BBC, others onetime lodge presidents, are concerned about the direction the organization has been taking. A native of South Africa who immigrated to Canada 20 years ago, Gimpel said that “problems really started when we stopped getting financial statements” in advance of the AGMs about seven years ago and when slates of officers began being chosen by acclamation.
“Everything was manipulated,” he said.
“We want accountability. We are raising funds for B’nai Brith. How is that money used? Where does it go? We don’t know.”'
