KBR Was Paid $83 Million in Bonuses for Work That Electrocuted US Soldiers
'The Department of Defense paid former Halliburton subsidiary KBR more than $80 million in bonuses for contracts to install electrical wiring in Iraq in 2007-2008. The award payment was for the very work that resulted in the electrocution deaths of US soldiers, according to Department of Defense documents revealed today in a Senate hearing.
More than $30 million in bonuses were paid months after the death of Sgt. Ryan Maseth, a highly decorated, 24-year-old Green Beret, whose January 2008 electrocution death has been classified by DoD investigators as a “negligent homicide.” Maseth’s death had originally been labeled an “accident.” All of the bonuses were paid to KBR after DoD investigators had officially expressed concerns about the quality of KBR’s electrical work.'

'The long wait is finally over today for thousands of Irishmen and women who suffered horrendous abuse at the hands of Catholic nuns, priests and monks inside state-sponsored children’s institutions. A decade has almost passed since the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse was established after THEe Irish Government was shamed by a television documentary series into apologising to victims and promising inquiries and compensation. 'The Sri Lankan Government has blocked access to aid workers trying to help the nearly 300,000 civilians displaced by the army’s victory over the Tamil Tigers, raising the prospect of a humanitarian catastrophe. Accounts of conditions inside the camps — gained from testimony recorded covertly by aid workers — and the journey to them are horrifying.'
'Survivors and victims' relatives of the July 7 London bombings today branded an official inquiry into the terror attacks “a complete whitewash”. The report by the Parliament Intelligence and Security Committee (ISC) published today said that it was “understandable and reasonable” that the bombers had not been detected and that the judgments made by the security service before July 2005 could not be criticised.
“This isn't an independent committee as they claim. It has been a group of MPs that have been hand-picked by the Prime Minister. We don't know what evidence they received in secret, if it was challenged and how it was challenged. They got it wrong the first time round so how can the public possibly have confidence in this report".'

'A former US official has reportedly been groomed to assume the second most powerful post in Afghanistan -- a move that will tighten Washington's grip on Kabul.The New York Times reported Tuesday that Afghan President Hamid Karzai has agreed to give the former US ambassador to the UN, Zalmay Khalilzad, the position of chief executive officer of Afghanistan.
According to senior US and Afghan officials who were speaking on condition of anonymity, the position would allow Khalilzad to serve as some form of "a prime minister, except not prime minister because he wouldn't be responsible to a parliamentary system."The appointment, which comes amid frosty relations between Karzai and the White House, has raised worldwide concern.'
'As President Barack Obama is said to be asking Israel to accept some kind of Palestinian state, US senators are urging him not to deviate from Tel Aviv in any negotiations. In a letter to Obama, 76 of the 100 senators said that the US "must take into account the risks it will face in any peace agreement."
The letter came a day after Obama met with the Israeli prime minister in Washington where Benjamin Netanyahu tried to divert the US focus on the stalled Middle East 'peace process' and shift it to the issue of Iran. Netanyahu dismissed the US president's 'concerns' over Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.'

'Everyone aged 55 and over should be taking drugs to lower their blood pressure, a London-based expert says. Epidemiology expert Professor Malcolm Law said blood pressure drugs cut the risk of heart attack and stroke even for those with normal blood pressure. His conclusion, published in the British Medical Journal and backed by other experts, is based on a review of 147 studies, involving 464,000 people. However, the Stroke Association warned the drugs could have side-effects.'

1300 Girls Harmed by HPV Vaccines in UK; Bizarre Side Effects Like Paralysis and Epilepsy
'More than 1,300 girls in the United Kingdom have experienced negative reactions to the government-mandated Cervarix vaccine for the human papillomavirus (HPV), according to adverse events reports collected from doctors by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
"When they introduced this new vaccine, we had major concerns about its safety," said Jackie Fletcher of Jabs, a support group for those negatively affected by vaccines. "The current statistics detailing adverse reactions -- including cases of epilepsy and convulsions -- bears out that we were right to be concerned."
Cervarix, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, inoculates patients against strains 16 and 18 of HPV, which are believed to be responsible for 70 percent of cervical cancer cases. The British government began a program to vaccinate all secondary school girls in September 2008, and 700,000 have received the injections so far. The government's plan is to have all girls under the age of 18 vaccinated by 2011.'

Senate Upholds Credit Card Usury
'Despite complaints that banks and credit card companies are gouging customers by charging outrageous interest rates, the Senate on Wednesday easily turned back an effort to cap interest rates at 15 percent. The effort by Senator Bernie Sanders, the Vermont independent, drew only 33 votes and needed 60, with a bipartisan group of 60 senators opposing it as the Senate pushed it's credit card overhaul toward the finish line. Some Democrats and consumer groups have said that an interest cap is needed to put real teeth into an otherwise solid bill.
Other backers of the measure calculated that an interest rate ceiling would doom the popular legislation. But Mr. Sanders said the card companies and banks were engaged in conduct that could get others hauled into court. He said one-third of all credit card holders are paying interest above 20 percent and as high as 41 percent.'

'David Chaytor has become the second Labour MP to admit claiming thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money for interest on a non-existent mortgage, it emerged last night. US Government Renews Threat to Withdraw Intelligence Sharing
'The High Court agreed to re-open the case last week after lawyers for Mr Mohamed argued that it was unclear if the new government maintained the position of the Bush administration. However, a letter from the US government, marked the "Obama administration's communication," has been filed with the High Court by the Foreign Office which is continuing to fight to keep details of Mohamed's treatment secret."
The seven paragraphs at issue are based upon classified information shared between our countries," the US letter said. "Public disclosure of this information, reasonably could be expected to cause serious damage to the United Kingdom's national security. Specifically, disclosure of this information may result in a constriction of the U.S.-U.K. relationship, as well as U.K. relationships with other countries".'

Cognitive dissonance is that filter in the head that explains away contradictions to confirm the original belief. It’s a powerful form of lying to yourself, so powerful, in fact, that you don’t know you are doing it. ‘We must take our freedoms away to protect our liberties’ is a classic example of cognitive dissonance in action.

Most of the left have convinced themselves that Obama is anti-war, a man of peace, and so there is no need for the campaigns of protest that we saw under Bush. But this is patent nonsense. Obama is not ‘anti-war’ at all.
This myth comes from a speech he apparently made opposing the invasion of Iraq in 2002, although, as with everything surrounding Obama, the spin is at odds with the substance. The very opening line of that speech said: ‘Let me begin by saying that although this has been billed as an anti-war rally, I stand before you as someone who is not opposed to war in all circumstances’.
Clearly, because his very first act in office was to sanction US bombing raids in Pakistan and you are going to see him (his masters through him) increase American military action in that country that will kill and maim still more civilians. And look at Afghanistan. By the end of this year the United States will have more than 68,000 troops deployed there – around double the number at the end of the Bush presidency.
