'US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton finished her talks in Cairo this week, demonstrating her administration's unequivocal support for President Mohamed Mursi and his government, the composition of which will be announced soon. Clinton's visit came days before Egypt begins to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the 1952 July Revolution against a fraught and sometimes turbulent political climate.

As one contemplates this backdrop, one cannot help but be struck by the irony that the archenemies of Gamal Abdel-Nasser, the leader of the 1952 Revolution, are in power in Egypt today. It seems appropriate, therefore, to take the occasion of the near conjunction between the Clinton visit and the anniversary of the 1952 Revolution to compare the Nasserist regime's relationship with Washington with the Muslim Brothers' relationship with successive US administrations.'
