‘UK Prime Minister’s Advisor is Not Independent’

'Former civilian servant Sir Alex Allan, the head of Intelligence Assessment for the British government, is to launch investigations into any alleged breach of the ministerial code as Cameron has decided to appoint him as his ‘independent advisor’ now that Sir Philip Mawer has retired, reported the Huffington Post UK.

British MPs on the Public Administration Select Committee have described the appointment as “a personal appointment.”

“Sir Alex doesn't have his own staff and cannot launch his own process. The fact is that he is a former civil servant with no prior independent experience of government. Calling him independent is rather a misnomer and it will not inspire public confidence,” said the MPs.'
