'Tony Blair has solicited for support of the Libyan leader on behalf of the Shell oil company to secure a lucrative oil deal, The Times has disclosed. According to documents obtained under a Freedom of Information request, there is a striking similarity between a letter former British Prime Minister Tony Blair sent to Colonel Gaddafi and a briefing note which was sent by the Anglo-Dutch oil producer Royal Dutch Shell to Blair a couple of weeks earlier sponsoring a £325 million deal.

Shell eventually clinched a £325 million deal to build a liquid natural gas terminal on the Libyan coast.'
